For over 5 years ive had a few very tiny red spots on my upper arms. By few, i mean 2 or 3 on each arm. They come and go and when pressed on they blank out and reappear. Recently ive noticed more have appeared and are spreading down my arms, mostly on my left arm though. Today i found 2 more on the left side of my left breast. They arent painful, they dont itch and they are all about the size of a pin *****s. I've searched everywhere and the only red spot info i found are for severe illnesses and the images show big, potruding, bumps. And the pages about age spots, i don't think apply, since im only 20. Please, if anyone has any info on these spots, tell me...its freaking me out...

  • I have them too, and the dermatologist told me the tiny red dots are caused by a virus, kind of like a miniature wart.

  • This is starting to sound something similar to what I have developed, but not quite the size of pin *****s. Mine seem to range from 1mm to 3mm, and maybe bigger or seems bigger because they appear clustered together.I only noticed something slightly redish on November 8th, but didn't think much of it that day. The next day it had spread to my chest and back so I went to the doctor. It has not been determined yet, but I have been doing my own personal research until I go back to the doctors. Today (November 11) it seems to be spreading to my lower body towards my legs and feet. It seems to be more spreaded around my knees, elbows and lower back. Somewhere from 8-24 hours before I noticed any red spots, I think I felt a slight itch or some sensation like like sore muscle/joints. I have been wondering if I ate some meat that was not quite fully cooked.I'm going to keep checking up on here to keep up with your situation. Maybe we might have the same thing.allyciax@hotmail.com

  • well they are not clustered and they dont itch. they are just there and they have happened slooowly 1 or 2 new ones like every year or something. i dont think it has anything to do with alcohol though because they started before i started drinking. i think the best answer is that it may be a skin bacteria or virus. idk. Last time i tried to talk to my doctor he kinda brushed it off since i was there for something else i forgot to keep insisting about it. im hoping its nothing serious because they are so tiny that all the pics ive seen about these tiny red dots are all way bigger than what i have. im going to see a dermatologist soon but i wanted a few different opinions since i dont want to find out after like 10 years or something that i was diagnosed incorrectly or something. thanks and any other info is greatly appreciated :-D

  • I am 28 and I have these too. My doc brushed them off but I am still worried about them. They appear here and there and almost look like a mole is about to form but it stays as this tiny pinprick sized red dot. Maybe I could take a photo to send you? What is your email address--I am really interested to know if we have the same thing and if we do, WHAT IS IT!? They don't itch or hurt but I am worried I have some early sign of a disease or something.

  • i went to my doctor yesterday and really pointed them out and he looked at them and said they are nothing. he said my platelet(spell check?) count was good and that i no longer had anemia and then when i kept asking him if he was sure he took..uh...forgot the word...one of those microscope things that they use to look in your ears and your mouth and looked at it more closely and said it was just little capillaries showing through the skin and that they were nothing to worry about, in my case. Id say that everyone is fine from this but when he mention the platelets, it made me wonder what other course they could have taken, so as for your pin *****s bella_grrl, maybe you should ask another doctors opinion on them. Or just ask your own doctor if your recent bloodwork came back normal. Hopefully its just the same as I.

  • I too get these small red dots that come and go. They are mostly on my back, sometimes in the chest and stomach area. Mine will usually ****k me like a needle for about 5 minutes, that's how I notice they are there cuz the pricking hurts and I go to see what it is. Does anyone get any pricking with it???? Mine is also just one here one there, not at all like a rash or anything.Well, I did some research today and found this picture (which is what mine look like) of Petechiae. Link below to website:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PetechiaYour doctor mentioning the platelet count, makes sense according to the definition of Petechiae. And I guess it can be something more serious. It really has me worried :-( Most info. I found said these should always be checked out. But I've been getting them for years and just ignored it til today I just wanted to know what it was, now I'm scared. Hope others will give some additional feedback on this subject.

  • well as i said before, mine never hurt, or irritated. i noticed them by chance when one day they were really prominent. that article there says it can be serious. i got lucky since all my results got back normal. it could be just that, busted vessels. but i wouldnt brush it off any longer if i were you since youre saying that they hurt. mine isnt like a rash either. theyre pretty much scattered randomly and they are few and far between. ask your doc asap. i hope everything turns out well!

  • It's funny that I came across this forum, because I too have had the same exact spots you describe for many years. The capillary "diagnosis" seems to make sense to me. I've always wondered what they could be, but decided to start doing some internet research after my husband noticed something similar on his stomach. Still not convinced that he has the same problem though. Thanks for posting your results.

  • To elaborate on what I just posted, the one thing that always stuck out was that they would appear, and then disappear. I've had some on my bicep that have been there for well over a decade, but there are others that have come and gone. Really strange. If it is a defect, I wonder why they disappear.

  • To allAre we allowed to change the diagnosis a little? How about on the surface of the skin and seem to be confined to the lower calf of each leg. Small clustered pinprick-like bumps some in areas smaller than a pea-size.The first symptom before anything visible is intense itching. It is almost like flea bites or multiple mild poisonous spider bites. Bed bugs maybe? They are similar to after you have visited someones home with dogs or cats that have drawn fleas. These small patches can then form dry skin; again smaller than pea size, which will flake slightly. I have heard that if when a child you were exposed to chicken-pox that this can develope as shingles in older age. My sibling brother and sister had chicken-pox but I never showed the symptoms.I undrstand that chicken-pox is a form of herpes virus.Instead I had German Measles or rubella (sp?) at age 6 in 1961.any info would be grately appreciated,thanks,Mark503 618 9079markscosmiclight@yahoo.com

  • Hi my name is mike.I have had exactly the same spots for around 2 years, I am now 18...still have them and now have them, in a quite scary amount, around my eyes. Thanks to the poster of that wiki link, because this happened after a night of heavy drinking..I was then sick (not really violently). I woke the next morning with the spots i previously had on my arms and chest...covering the bottom eyelid.I will give it a day or two more to see if they die down, thanks again for that link.

  • I am a 32 y/o male and I have the same problem that everyone here is stating. I spotted 2 of these small red flat spots on the skin or under the skin (can't really tell) above my collar bone about 2 months ago. They don't itch or anything. I have a recurring dream where I walk through spider webs and it causes me to scratch myself in my sleep. Its not uncommon for me to wake up with a deep scratch on my face or chest somewhere. One night, I just happened to scrath the exact area and broke the skin on top of them. Then they went away and I just had 2 dark spots like what mosquito bites leave behind. The dark spots eventually healed to nomal-color skin. But about a month later, I have 2 more tiny red spot lower on my chest. Today, I just spotted one on top of a knuckle on my right hand. Sorry all to throw a monkey wrench with the possible causes but I do not drink alcohol at all so you should probably rule that out. I am getting woried...What is this???

  • Hi there,Yesterday I noticed a very weird appearance of a patch of spots on my boyfriend's back, they arent' raised like bites or pimples, they don't itch, they are more in the skin, the way freckles or a birthmark are, but a little bigger, and they are red/pinkish, and in a really uniform pattern, it's really weird, it's like he got abducted by aliens or something. has anyone experienced or heard of anything like this? I scoured the internet but couldn't really find anything that was like this. I would appreciate any feedback...it's freaking us both out (and he's' waiting for his insurance to kick in - another month)thanks!you can also email me at ms612ms@hotmail.com

  • Hi I'm also trying to find an answer to the same problem, been searching all over the internet. The petechiae that i have, have been gradually getting worse over the past year (perhaps since i started taking the pill two years ago?), they have only ever been on my legs and they don't disappear when a glass is pressed against them, they also look the same as the one in picture on wikipedia (link above, thanks for posting it!), but i have noticed one or two that are about 2mm or 3mm big. These also disappear after a while but there are always new ones appearing. Last october i got really stressed (had moved from home to start at uni) and fell ill for a while with meningitus-like symtoms; headache, sorethroat, neckache that spread down my spine and up the back of my head, a little sensitive to light, really bad tiredness/weakness. I went to the hospital about it but they just said it was a virus and it'd clear up within about 10 days. However the petechiae had spread to the tops of my feet and to my arms, though the petechiae on my arms disappeared after a while.I've had several bouts of the same meningitus-like symptoms since but they've gradually got less severe and didn't last as long. I've been to the doctor about these petechiae and she admitted that we may never find out what's causing them, but she did blood tests and they all came back normal.I have noticed they appear again on my arms after i've been drinking, even a double shot of southern comfort, lime and lemonade (just the one drink) can get them to show up. I also seem to find small bruises that i have no idea how they happened (like walking into a desk would be memorable lol) and as i do scuba diving, i'm always covered in new bruises for a while after a dive and other divers are amazed by it as they don't come away with as many bruises (if they do even get bruises) as i do.I have seen the doctor since for more of the pill (she took me off Microgynon 30 and put me on Yasmin to try that) and she asked me how the petechiae were and i told her about them getting worse with alcohol. She looked over the results for the blood test again and just said that it's possible i'm allergic to alcohol or the preservatives - but then why does the petechiae on my legs stay all the time? She also said that i could have sensitive skin as when she took my blood pressure the cuff created lines of petechiae on my arm.I'm 18 years old and these petechiae are doing my head in, they don't itch or hurt etc but just being able to see them, and knowing that alcohol makes them worse, worries me. please does anyone have any idea?

  • sorry but just to add to the above post; i forgot to say that the amount of petechiae on my legs and feet is most probably in it's hundreds, it isn't just one or two odd spots. Though when i do drink or feel unwell (which can be easy - not getting enough sleep, not eating enough through out the day - if i miss a meal then it can screw me up for the rest of the day, all i'll want to do is sleep as well as headache and a sorethroat) then the petechiae that appear mainly on my right arm are only very few (about 4 or 5 spots) that disappear eventually.if anyone has any ideas or answers, please let me know. I seriously hate going to the doctors as i'm not exactly dying etc and sometimes it just feels like i'm wasting their time.thanksemail: leanne.stanford@yahoo.co.uk

  • I have these same type of red dots that you describe on the inside of my right forearm. I first noticed a small cluster of them in 2nd grade and over the years they spread to just beyond my elbow. There was never any sensation or irritation associated with them. My mom finally took me to a dermatologist who told me that they are dilated blood vessels and nothing to worry about. She told me that some people just get them and they will follow a nerve path. So even though mine stopped just past my elbow I could have theoretically gotten them all the way down my spine. She told me that they are only something to be concerned about when they are on the forehead or neck because in that case they can indicate a neurological disorder. She also told me that I could get them removed with laser therapy. I have never had mine removed although I get annoyed of people thinking I have poison ivy in the summer...and I have noticed they get darker right before it rains:) Hope this helps.
