Purple, thin almost stretch-mark like marks on my thighs and groin area

I'm a very healthy 15 year old and weight lift every day. They're not very painful but I fear they may cut open when I'm doing lifts like squats. Also, if I run my fingers over them I can feel how the skin get's thinner.

  • I have the same type of rash. It started on my left shin. Next, I noticed it on my butt, and it has also appeared on my outer right thigh and inner left thigh. My mom is a nurse, but she doesn't know what it is.

  • "Almost" stretch marks? I would bet dollars to donuts that they are indeed stretch marks. These are *very* commonly seen in people who do weightlifting. Stretch marks, which are correctly termed "stria/striae", feel thinner because of there is a greatly reduced amount of collagen in the dermis.

  • I do not work out, yet I have almost the exact same marks. They get worse with heat (like when I get a hot shower), and they get itchy sometimes too. I do not think they are stretch marks.

I haven't gone to a doctor yet because my insurance has a large deductible, and I cannot afford it at this time :(. Hopefully you find out what you have. Mine seemed to spread for awhile, but it stopped.

Unfortunately, you are correct in that there isn't much you can do. Certainly there are no medications that are designed to specifically treat this problem. However, there are many that believe that a retinoid such as Retin-A can help with the rebuilding of collagen. Therefore, while the addition of Retin-A won't get rid of stretch marks completely, it might make them less noticeable. If you see a dermatologist, you might bring this up and ask them what they think about this treatment.

  • yeah, I've had the same thing for God knows how long. years definately. Purple-ish scar looking marks with definate scar tissue. Some have faded as scars normally do but others are more recent. They first appeared center thigh to the left and right of my groin, curved and went down. A few inches long. What freaked me out at first was that they were perfectly symmetrical. I dismissed it thinking it was stretch marks. later I kept getting more; some still symmetrical but most have not been. Some in the inches range and some not so big. Didn't think to really look in to it indepth until I just noticed two more this morning when I woke up and they weren't there the night before so I'm convinced they're not stretch marks now. Any kind of diseases with symptoms like this?

  • I had the same thing all over my legs, calves and shins,, it was pretty scary because they appeared from one day to the next.. And it came off after i put alot alot of lotion on them,, first i thought i had stains or they were marks of when i was sleeping, but i rubbed them with a wet towel And they wouldnt come off,, they didnt hurt either.. I think they came because of the heat,, or humidity??
