Patches on back of neck.

2 years ago, I noticed that on the beck of my neck I had circular dark patches of skin. They don't hurt or anything but it's not exactly the nicest thing to see. I used an anti-fungal cream to treat it and it seemed to gradually disappear.

2 years later, they seem to have come back. Using the same cream does not work and I am wondering if anyone knows what they may be ?

I am considering consulting my doctor, but I am really busy at the moment and can't really get time off and can only really go if it gets worse?

Any advice?

  • This sounds so similar to what my daughter has. She too was having the type of problems you mention. After a few trips to the doctor we finally found out that she has tinea versicolor. There are a few different treatments, the first one we tried was a lotion but it was quite messy and it was a chore to do, and despite all of our attempts it only went away for a fe weeks. Then we tried Sporonox, an antifungal. She had the best results with it, and the symptoms stayed away longer, we were told by two specialists that you really don't "cure" tinea, you only quiet it down for awhile. Be advised though on Sporonox treatment, and be sure to ask your healthcare provider and/or pharmacist, there are many medications you have to avoid while taking this medication. My daughter can usually get by on two rounds of it a year to keep it in check. Hers we noticed the longer it went on had actually spread to more areas of her body making her very self conscious. Good luck!!!
