ok so i have these light brown blotches that appear on my chest, back, and back of my neck. They seem to be most noticible on my chest and the back of my neck right now though. I am a 17 year old female, im 5'8 and weigh about 150 pounds. I have not always had these blotches but i probably started developing them when i was about 12. they do not itch or hurt or anything, but they are noticeable and i feel like i have to be covered up all the time. they do come and go sometimes but never fully go away.

i have not seen any doctor for it yet because i am really emabarassed about it, but now i am getting to the point where im sick of having to deal with them. so if anyone has any opinion about what it might be or what could help i would really appreciate it.

  • The likelyhood of fungus is remote. More likely tinea versicolor or a rare but benign condition called (and I kid you not) "reticulated and confluent papillomatosis of Gugerot and Carteau". There are many other possibles, so go see a dermatologist. Don't go see a GP, as a regular doc might have problems distinguishing tinea versicolor, and they will surely have never heard of G/C.....

  • I used to have the same thing and being a 17 year old girl as well I know how embarrassing they are but it's just a fungal infection and if you go to the doctor they will give you a cream that you can put on it twice a day for two weeks and then it is gone forever. Don't be scared to go to the doctor to rid yourself of this annoying infection, it is very much worth it and its gone in less than a week.

Since nothing the OP wrote is consistent with a fungal infection, why would you diagnose this? Would it not make more sense to propose a diagnosis that *is* consistent with what the OP states?

  • When you describe them as light brown in color, are they pigmented like freckles? I developed strange light brown blotches on my cheeks when I was having liver troubles and was toxic. You might want to try taking milk thistle.
