This has been going on for sooo long. I also have psoriasis on other parts of my body and have been using hydrocortisone (mild), over the counter for vaginal itching and my psoriasis med as well. Had an RX from my gyn last year but that did not help. I do have burning after urination only in one area so I assume there has to be a cut or something there to cause this. It is primarily on one side only and is driving me crazy. I no longer have periods - am a good del over 65. My derm said to see my gyn and he really ignores the problem. I have tried examining myself but I do not see anything out of the ordinary and my husband has looked for me as well. I have been mentioning this itching to my gyn for at least 2 years now so I would love to stop itching!
Any suggestions at all?

  • Please read my posts on Bacterial Vaginosis. There is a good home remedy using unsweetened yogurt and probiotic capsules inserted vaginally. This works for BV, Candida and other problems causing itching and burning and irritation. It works wonders - please try it!Best wishes.DOM

  • DOM: I checked your posts but my symptoms do not match. I do not have any discharge and the itching is mainly on the outside and in the pubic area and only on the left side..

  • Please ask your doctor to evaluate you for a skin condition called lichen sclerosis. It is usually treated with a steroid cream. Keep the area as dry as possible, no perfumed products or soaps, and cold packs may calm the itching.

  • I too have this EXACT same thing! Occurred out of the blue almost a year ago. Insanely itchy, dry, scaly, flaky skin on the left labia. No odor, discharge, or any other symptoms. Dr. said to put hydrocortisone on it, but I can't help but to think that something is going on as I can't help but to think that I have to live this way forever since I am only 34. Did anyone ever find an answer to this original reply???

  • I am so glad that I am not the only one with this problem, I kept second guessing myself, it appeared about 4 months ago. I have the same symptoms, the intense itching in my vulvar area and I also seem to have a cut that sometimes subsides for a day or two then comes back. It stings when I urinate (because of the cut, not my urinary tract). I was treated for a yeast infection which that wasn't the problem. I have tried all kinds of over-the-counter ointments to help stop the itching and to heal the cut but nothing seems to work. Also, my doctor gave me a prescription for Estrace (vaginal hormonal cream). I tried that but it just seems to irritate the area more. Someone has got to have a remedy or suggestion. I have been on Premarin for the past 11 months, could that be the culprit? Please help it's driving me crazy!!!!

  • I was also getting that return "sore" which caused stinging.Get off the Premarin. My mom goes to the same doctor in New York. She was on premarin and had problems..As she put it.."He fixed me straight -- really good".If you have any access to get to NYC..please make an effort to see this doctor. Your first round of complete tests will go beyond standard routine testing which you've gone through..plus if you have anything that shows as positive he will let you take a look in the microscope and will educate you on his findings RIGHT THERE. It's amazing. He does about 8 separate lab tests right in front of you with results..he does not waste time. He listens to your every word. I had two issues he could treat right there from those tests done in the office. My problem of 2 years of misdiagnosed itching is almost gone by the second month after simple treatments. One of the further test result that came back the lab 3 weeks after my first visit had a positive for strept! (not the throat kind) After getting treated for that and within 2 days of that second visit..my labia is almost back to normal. I was back to normal after 2 WEEKS after the strept bacteria was under control. I FEEL NORMLAL...NO ITCHING...I can't tell you how thrilled I am..That's why I went all over some of these sites..to get my story out. That there is most likely a simple answer..but it's not routine!!! That's why these morons keep saying "yeast"..because they don't listen, and don't prove the theory. When I say to a doctor - Hmmm..intense itching...but no OTHER symptoms when I've had yeast infections before...DING DING DING ..you would think.hmmm..it could be something else..I SHOULD TEST.I use bold caps because I am so *****d about realizing what MORONS are out there. Simple science is TEST PROVE and TREAT appropriately!Yeast may be the small part of the issue... But most likely not it. Plus being on Premarin will mess up more of your hormones and probably endocrine system which helps fight off bacteria. It's all unbalanced. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me in this forum.I will call you so you can feel confident about doing this..plus I can tell you what else to expect..which I don't want to discuss in detail here in the forum.I am so glad that I am not the only one with this problem, I kept second guessing myself, it appeared about 4 months ago. • Also, all of the over the counter stuff is not going to work..it will only make it worse. I tried everything..even vicks vapo rub to trick the nerves into feeling something else other than itch.I was using vaseline to cover cuts or sores so i could actually pee with some level of comfort.Temporarily I found some mint lotion which the menthol helped alleviate the itching temporarily. But only for a half hour or so..but when it got bad at night...it was just bad.I am so glad that I am not the only one with this problem, I kept second guessing myself, it appeared about 4 months ago. • who is this dr?! I know all about good dr.s that do not take insurance, due to my husbands mis diagnoses of lyme disease. I have searched for myself, and I have found that i might have neuro-dermatitis. My itch is described like yours, but I also get it on my shoulders at the same spot on each side, always worse at night. 8 Surprising Facts About Cholesterol

Did you know that one in six US adults has high cholesterol?

  • I also suffered from several vaginal itching before and after my cycle every month for almost a year now. I had no discharge and no odor. My gyno prescribed Diflucan but it worked temporarily. The itching would come back after I finished the next menstrual cycle. So I surfed the net and did this: I started taking once a day – Probiotic Acidophilus 10mg capsules from CVS for around $5. Remember to refrigerate the bottle as it states on the label. Some people take one capsule twice a day but I found that taking one capsule per day with a meal cleared up the "excessive white cells" my gyno was seeing and all itching.I use Free & Clear laundry detergents. As a precaution I did this:I threw out every last single pair of underwear I owned and bought 3 packs of new cotton panties.I did the same for the washcloths. I bought a few of the more expensive thick sturdier washcloths (not the flimsy cheap ones). When I wash down below, I use soap to wash the cloth but not so much (a very little amount) on the actual skin down there. I do not work up a lather because when I did this I had a moderate itch a few hours after. AVOID LATHERING UP DOWN BELOW!I am careful to rinse with just water at 3-4 times after I have washed with very little soap. I completely pat dry the area with a bath towel.I apply a (no scent) pantiliner to my panties to help absorb moisture.I am pleased and most grateful to report that I have not had any itching or irritation for 2 almost 3 months. When I did experience a slight irritation it was when I lathered too much soap down below and did not rinse and dry thoroughly. Otherwise NO problems whatsoever and it has been wonderful to be itch free!

  • It could be something simple like a pimple. However, if you have reason to believe you have been infected with herpes, it could be that too.________________Get Your 24 Hour Yeast Infection Cure HereI agree it could be herpes. This becoming more and more common its just rediculous! No cure yet but they do have medications to contain it. If you have any nervy conditions it will add to the problem, severe stress brings it on. If you have lymph nodes that are swollen in your neck or back of the head there is a viral infection present( herpes) Dont be embarrassed its more common then you think. Go to your doctor and get tested. Herpes can lay dormant for up to ten years and then poof! Doctors just aren't being honest with us and taking advantage of us. Except for the one Blew found. and mine. Good Luck

  • I suffered for two years with undiagnosed itching of the vulvar area. All the typical testswere done for yeast, etc as well as two biopsies. Finally a specialist prescribed nystatin cream and retin-a. No diagnosis as such, but complete relief with no recurrence in the last nine years. Maybe this will help someone out there.

  • I've been having this odd itching off an on for about a year now. It's around the vaginal opening and my anus. Over a year ago I was diagnosed with a vaginal bacterial infection and the treatment was successful; however, about a month after that, I developed this weird itching. It's only external, no internal itching at all. My doctor took a swab test for STDs and said I didn't have any. She DID say there was a lot of yeast and I had an external yeast infection. But why do I keep getting it??? I have a bit of a discharge but no terrible odor (in fact, I smell like cake, of all things...). I'm not currently having sex and haven't for about 9 months now. But sometimes after masturbation, the skin in the itchy area feels raw and burns a bit. I don't have insurance either and can't afford yet another trip to the doctor. What is wrong with me???

  • I have had symptoms of itching and no discharge for about a year. No one could give me an answer to what it could be. I finally found something that has completely cleared all symtoms and its all herbal. It's called VitaKlenz and anyone out there having any symptoms that they can not find an answer to should definiately take this! I feel I have to tell all women in America about this product. Some how I got lucky and found it, and I just would like to share this information with anyone out there that has tried everything, like me, and failed. I wish someone would have posted this earlier for me. Ladies you wont be dissapointed. This is worth the money.

  • I have the same thing and was told by a gyn twice that it's probably herpes and was tested twice for it. Tests came back both times negative. I was told to switch toilet paper, detergent, etc. Wear cotton underwear. Did all that - got worse. Finally saw a different gyn and she took a "plug" (a sample of the area) and sent it to the lab. Came back with a diagnosis. It's eczema. Prescribed a cream - can't remember what it was. The cream took months to clear it up. Stayed cleared up for a few months and then the symtoms got worse - more cuts, severe itching, and burning when I urinated due to the cuts. Developed scar tissue at the site. The gyn told me to see the dematologist who confirmed it is eczema and prescribed Protopic 0.1%. I use it twice a day for 1 month, then once a day for a month, then two days a week as maintenance to keep it gone. It took a few days to see any improvement. It's been exactly one week since starting the Protopic and I am nearly symptom free. It's great to feel good! Hope this helps. I am so glad that I am not the only one with this problem, I kept second guessing myself, it appeared about 4 months ago.
