This itching comes every year in late summer/early fall...when my tan fades. There is no rash or redness and only happens after every shower...warm not hot water. My skin is not dry & I moisturize every day. Itching is on my arms and legs....at times very severe. Usually lasts about 30 min...cool/cold wet compresses help. It seems to be systemic not a skin irritation or rash. By the time the season passes to colder weather...it stops. I am fine during winter, spring and summer.
What it causing this? I dread this time time of year...is there anything I can take prior to showering?

  • Ok probably a long shot that you'll see this since this post was almost 5 yrs ago but I was wondering if you've ever gotten any answers about this? I have the IDENTICAL issue. Same time of year, same locations, no rash, lasts the same amount of time. And it's typically worse if I've gotten more tan during the summer. Since its not an immediate sun reaction that's why I was wondering if there's such a thing as a delayed reaction or some kind of reaction to whatever process is happening when a tan fades. It's been happening for me since I was a teenager (in my 30s now) and every dermatologist I've talked to about it seems clueless. I also dread that time of year because I end up sitting for 20-30 minutes after a shower with my skin suuuuper itchy. Lotion doesn't really do anything. It's so bizarre! And it's infuriating! I feel your frustration and was curious if you'd gotten any solutions/answers you wouldn't mind sharing. Thanks!

  • I have the same itching problem...Same time of year as tan fades. Drinking ice water helps & taking Tylenol or Advil before Shower. It's weird... Thinking it's our skin cells reproducing & warm shower activates the itching.??? Hope this helps.
