Fingernail discoloration

so, i noticed that the fingernails on my left hand only have started to take on this weird sorta color..thing. On my pinky, ring and middle fingers theres a clearly defined line, curved in the same direction as the nail bed curves, about halfway up each. It is this grayish brown color on the lower half, while being abnormally (but not startlingly) red/pink. This is on my left index finger too, but much less well defined. It is not on my left thumb, nor does it show up even in the least on my right hand.

Oh, in addition, I tend to take several baths a day; it basically serves as my only psychological comfort. Im an introvert and have found people rarely bother me in the bath. If im especially upset (as has been the case for the last 3+ months) I can stay in for two hours at a time, three if Im feeling particularly lousy.

Whenever I do take a bath in this manner, I do the following: I leave my right hand out so i can write (another reason I take time alone), while keeping my left constantly/near constantly submerged. The left is the hand with the problem.

I should also note that I have a problem where my fingers and toes get very cold, very fast. But this is a lifelong condition, and has never caused any problems. They dont go numb or anything like that. The pinky on my left hand will tingle from time to time, but doesnt go numb, and seems to be a problem with a pinched nerve or something. it only happens when i hold it in a single position for an extended period. To avoid shame, lets call this position "holding on to a cylindrical object firmly in one hand." theres no similar problem on my right hand.

Any clues? I dont have any discoloration anywhere else, though the amount of dry skin on my feet has torn them up quite heavily.

  • Before I forget, I should mention that this is not a sudden thing, that happend over night. It looks and acts more like a stain than anything else. The top of the nails however, is pink and blotching and *extremely* sensitive, looking actually a lot thinner than my right hand.
