Feels like mosquito bites, but isn't

Recently I began feeling like there are mosquitos biting me constantly & I can't figure out what's doing it.

It does not happen at any particular time of day.
My skin is not dry.
It happens whether I am standing, sitting down, walking, lying down, etc.
I haven't changed my diet or habits or my laundry detergent. And it usually happens on uncovered skin, anyway.
It happens everywhere on my body, but mostly on my legs & arms.
The feeling can last anywhere from 1 sec. to 30 sec. & doesn't seem to stop until I scratch or touch it in some way. Sometimes I'll look at my skin where I am having the "biting" feeling & can see that there is nothing there, but it won't end until I do something about it. But, it is painful until I do so.
Often, the area itches for a while after the biting feeling, making it seem even more so that I was 'bitten', but there is never a mark or welt & I don't see any bugs around.

Does anybody have any idea what this could be? Thank you.

  • TWO WORD.... Bird Mites! An old thread yet I wanted to add what I found which could give someone answers. I was getting similar bites and ruled out dust mites, bed bugs, mosquitos, etc.... Then I read a post about bird mites, and after some research realized that was the culprite. If you have any bird nests 25ft from your bedroom they can come and get you. They usually do it after the little birdies have left the nest, when they can no longer bite them. My husband and kids were not affected at all, yet for some reason they loved to bite me(as do mosquitos). I tried EVERYTHING- hot water, all kinds of bug solutions and herbal remedies all over me yet nothing helped. Super itchy small red bte that got much larger like a mosquito bite when scratched. The only way to get rid of them is to have the nest removed- and regular termite-pest companies do not do it, sometimes you have to find a specialist to do it in your area. Put it in a bag and you can freeze the bag or toss it on trash day and make sure it gets out quickly.Thje problem should go away within 2-3 days and no more bites.... worked for me. Now we take the nests down as soon as the birds make them each year.

  • Ask your dermatologist for this problem you may have allergy of something that you are not able to predict. If possible try to more cover your body when you go outside.

  • I have what seems like mosquito bites but not red or raised bumps. Itch just like mosquito bites. Can happen at home or at work! They stay itching for so e days and then new ones come along. I have searched for ideas. Dust mites, but it seems they do not bite, bed bugs, could it be this. Fleas? I wash my bedding weekly at 60 c. We do have cat which we treat with flea solution and I keep her out of the bedroom. I am sitting writing this and can feel the itching most of the day. I take antihistamine and it helps a little but does not stop the itching. Mostly on my legs and ankles with occasional on arms and body. Drives me mad what is it?

  • OMG Same thing happens to me. It feels just like I'm getting bit by a mosquito. That stinging itch and usually as soon as I scratch, it goes away. The skin may feel a little irritated probably from scratching. But when it happens it doesn't stop. Seems like its seasonal and when it happens, I swear I feel like they just attacked me. No one else here in my house ever feels it. I got out a magnifying glass and never could see anything still when it would happen. I have a cat as well; there has been some fleas around lately. But I guarantee these are fleas. It's like they are microscopic or I'm just losing my mind lol

  • Similar problem for me.consulted my dermatologist. He said in more than 70% of these cases you cannot find the cause, but he prescribed me two medicines tablet (DAZIT 5mg & Teczine 5mg) and advised to take for a month..it been 3 weeks and I faced not a single bite from the second day itself.

  • Has anyone found the reason or the treatment for that yet I thought I would be able to see the reply of what anyone says about it but I guess I can't. Did anyone find a solution to the problem I'm having the same problem it started a few days ago feels like mosquito bites, no sign of mosquito no red bumps no scar just pure itchiness and it gets worse after taken a shower too, after I've awaken in bed I feel a lot and then it sort of goes away and then you get your body wet and feet and arms start itching crazy.
