Help! Each Night around 4-6 PM my skin begins to burn all over, it can itch as well. Been to all the doctors. Unbearable, any ideas? Collidal Oatmeal Lotion sometimes helps. No visible rash. No help from Neurologist, Dermatologist, GP, Endocrinologist...

  • I know this isn't a hot flash and it's more what I see you guys describing. First a certain area will start to get really hot (usually my upper arms) then it will start to itch or feel like a million pin *****s. Then my face and neck and my thighs. I get really splotchy like hives only no raised bumps. When I take a couple of benadryl it clears up very quickly which lead me to believe it was an allergy. It seems to happen shortly after I eat, but I've been tracking what I've eaten right before it happens and there is no commonality that I can find. This started about a month ago. About 4 mos ago I cut out wheat and dairy because of allergies so I know it's not thoses.I guess this post isn't helping but misery does love company.

  • I know that this isn't a hot flash and it seems to happen within 10 minutes of eating but there is no rhyme or reason to it. I usually get a hot spot on my upper arm which then gets really itchy and burning sometimes feels like I'm being pricked by a zillion needles. Then it spreads to my face, neck lower arms and thighs. I've tracked what I eat and there is no commonality. It started about a month ago and has happened about 5 times so far (one right now as I am typing) I cut out wheat and dairy about 4 mos ago so I know that's not it. My skin gets really splotchy like hives but no raised skin. I can take hours to go away unless I take a couple of benadryl then it goes away in about 15 min. That's why I thought it might be an allergy but to what, I don't know. I've been keeping a log of what I've eaten and done right before the "attack" but I can't see a pattern. I guess I'll try the dr. but I don't really think he is going to have a clue. I know this post isn't helping much but misery does love company. PMM

  • I have been dealing with itching also. Only on arms and neck. Comes and goes. Worse at night. Ice only relief. Have tried dermatologist, allergy doc and regular doc. Every over the counter cream,Zyrtec, Benadryl, nothing works. I am now seeing a doctor who told me the Liver needed detox. I did my first coffee enema last night and am hoping detoxing is going to help. I don't know. Anyone who deals with this gets pretty desperate after so long. I don't know what else to try so hope this will be the answer. Sick of Itching!

  • For the past 2 years I've had the same symptoms....it starts off as a burning sensation and then after a bit it starts to itch. The weird thing with me is that my skin raises if I scratch and even if I don't scratch. I will have sort of like welts on my skins in the shape of lashings....like if you get a rope and slash someone on the skin the skin will raise in a line and this is how my skin gets. I've tried all the lotions out there and soaps for sensitive skin but to nothing works. When I first got these symptoms they were in the late afternoon on through the night until I fell asleep. Now it can be anytime of the day. I do take benadryl which helps but most of the time I take it in the evening so I dose off and I'm not sure if the medication is actually working or if I'm just not noticing the symptoms because I'm asleep. Well, I guess I should go to the doctors and get this checked. I wish you all luck with finding a cure. Help! Each Night around 4-6 PM my skin begins to burn all over, it can itch as well. • I have the same problem too, I have no idea what it is, the only relief I've found is Benadryl and Solarcaine.

I thought I was going around the bend. he burning, itching, welts and I also get this pin ****k feeling happening. I could virtually scratch so hard that my skin would bleed if I didn't try to control it. What helps me is my husband gently gliding his hand over the affected areas which actually soothes whats happening. Tried all the above, hot showers, no showers (yuk), showers in the morning, showers at night, using baby sensitive wash powder, changing & cutting out fabric softeners, etc etc.... I wait to go to bed now until I am so tired that I can't keep my eyes open with the hope that if I'm not already itching that I will fall asleep quickly. Is there anyone out there with a cure? Any Dr. Houses' in the house??

  • Wow, didn't realize others were suffering from the burning and itching as well. Mine can begin any time of the day, but especially at night. It starts with a feeling of a pin ****k/nerve ending sting, and then the area starts burning and itching. There is no rash or bumps on the skin. It usually becomes un bearable. I get into a warm shower (don't like cold showers), wash with Aveeno oatmeal wash and just sit in the shower for a few minutes. Then get out and put on Aveeno oatmeal skin cream. However, I don't think this is a skin condition, I think it is a nerve issue. I have tried all types of dry skin creams, benadryl cream and pills. My dermotologist gave me cream and medication that has not even touched this issue! I have also tried icing down the area which, sometimes, helps. My next step is to see an neuologist for help. I also have an all-over tingling sensation most of the time - day and night. I haven't had a good night sleep in weeks... This all began about two months ago when I began taking Plaquenil for Lupus. Although I have stopped taking the medication the skin burning and itching has continued. So, I am not sure whether the medication had anything to do with it. I really need help...

Irish spring moisture blast with hydro beadsbefore i was using this soap above i used dove moisturizing creme soap.. for the year... but i thought that was giving me sinusitus so i switched to irish spring.. • I have been following all the itch problems in here for a while now !Also have had all the blood work done for over 2 1/2 years !Nothing shows ! My regular practitioner sent me to a gastrologist, he ordered moreblood work as my liver enzymes were slightly elevated ! Nothing showed different there either. Then he ordered a liver scan, where you drink that awful barrium ! Also nothing !(I am sure you will do anything for this to stop ) !Last Thursday I went for a liver biopsy, he said lets just do it, so we don't miss anything !He also thought it might have something to do with the itch that has plagued me 2 1/2 years ! In the beginning it was maddening, It would go in it's frenzie very often and I would want to run down the street neeked and look for an iceburg ! I am sure you can all relate !Now it comes and goes, but when it starts it is still very maddening and works also on the nervous system, as we don't know when it will stop ! ( mean comes and goes as in not all day long ) But, it visits me daily !I have stayed away from warm drinks in the AM ! I am trying to stay away from chocolate and nuts !I have the itch, but best described as something under my skin biting me ! I don't very often see anything on top of the skin ! Once in a while I will have some welts that take forever to heal ! Even with antibiotic creams !Also sometimes it will burn !Two Drs. put me on Atarax, well that works, if you want to be in a zombie state !Similar to benadryl ! Who would know if they itch, while knocked out !My hubby tells me to go to a dermatologist, I till him to go, it will do me as much good if they check him out !They go through all the creams that we have already had ! They have no clue, or they would be millionaires ! Who ever makes this break through will have to keep it to themselves, write a book and sit back and enjoy the rewards !I know others personally that have an "itch" as we call it ! The itch has no bounderies, age, color or creed ! I have chased it all over my body with ice, but it is faster than me !I only have two hands, it seems to have squid tentacles !I will write again next week when I get my results from biopsy !Hang in there ! It is not fatal, I read where someone had it 20 years ! Yikes, sorry !MargiePS, I have been a stay at home Mom for years ! (Children are grown and out of the house now ) So, nothing work related and I don't take any meds ! Sometimes people can get a reaction to med changes !

  • This weird itching is a sign of female hormonal imbalance..Check your hormones...check your TSH....Correct the imbalances and the burning itch will go away immediately..This is what happened to me..I know this isn't a hot flash and it's more what I see you guys describing. 8 Surprising Facts About Cholesterol

Did you know that one in six US adults has high cholesterol?

  • I experience the same thing. Redness, intense itching, radiating heat from my cheeks beginning in the evening and often lasting way into the night. I can go days or weeks without an episode. I can't seem to find any pattern, such as correlation to my menstrual cycle. I usually wind up taking Benadryl. I don't know if it stops it or just makes me so drowsy I just fall asleep. Sometimes putting ice on my cheeks help. I found on the internet to try mashing very ripe bananas, honey, and oatmeal together to put on your face. I was so desperate I gave it a try and it worked!!! Just don't leave it on too long. You have to scrub hard to get it off it dries completely and your face will hurt for that reason instead. Hope this helps.

About 4 mos ago I cut out wheat and dairy because of allergies so I know it's not thoses.I guess this post isn't helping but misery does love company.I got allergy testing done, and was told I was highly allergic to both types of dustmites (are in all pillows, upholstered furniture, unwashed clothing, carpet, bed and sheets:even synthetic materials, because they feed of human dander, dust & such), and also both types of coackroaches (American and German - had to laugh at that, but it can get especially bad if they're in the walls and die/dehydrate after eating from traps or poison). So if you happen to also be allergic, then you may have similar symptoms to mine - red burning in the face, itching of the skin; it's often in the evening and more often in the morning - both times where I'm more in contact with my couch and bed, and on carpeted floors (we didn't vacuum often, it didn't seem to be dirty!). I was told to take over the counter Zyrtec instead of Claritin (Doc said it was stronger, but pharmtech said they were the same, so I just assumed one chemical was better at one end of the allergy spectrum than the other) and it works pretty well on top of - vacuuming more often, washing sheets and my mattress pad in hot water once a week, washing pillows and duvet every couple of weeks (instead of buying expensive protective covers) - things like that. More work for me, so if I'm sick or lazy, I just take benedryl (it doesn't make me as tired as most, especially if you take it more often than 3 times a week, and doctor agreed it doesn't hurt your body to do that). If it's not an allergy, sorry - but there are some reports that Demodicosis (mentioned in a previous post) was linked to dustmites... worth an allergy test if you can afford/get one. Or try the cleaning more often and see if it helps - vacuum your mattress even to really see.Hope this helps and Good luck!~Bex

Mine starts of the morning, about an hour after I get up. I have been to countless Drs. no help. I changed my faimly Dr. three weeks ago. At the very least this one listens to me. I have high blood pressure, no other problems. I am completely healthy. This high blood pressure thingy started about the same time as the burning itch. My skin gets red and it is very hot. Like a lot of you I thought I was dehydrated, but I was not. I paid attention to when it started, any time I would get damp (from taking a swower, sweating, or just beng in a rain shower the itch would start). This was when it was at its worse. I changed every thing that we washed in I couldn"t take a swower any more, I started to bath in epton salts.(only way I can bath) no soap of any kind. It is always when I start to dry off, that the burning itch starts. Now the last time I saw the new Dr. I told him to forget about the high blood pressure, that I needed him to do something about this burning itch. He started to pay attention when I showed him my skin. It was very red and the itching was intense. He went out of the room for a while and came back. He wrote me several percriptions for different types of meds. They all were ant-ihistamines. He said that I had mastocytosis, their is no cure, but he could treat my symptoms. The meds help, and you can bet I take them about an hour before a bath. The itch is not gone, but I can live with it. I will continue to look for a cure and I hope that everone on this forum can get help for their itching. God bless you all.

  • Didn't read all the posts here, but here is my story. Two months ago I was preparing my driveway to be sealed so I used compressed air to blow out the loose material from the cracks in the driveway. Dirty job, but had to be done. Took a shower a few hours later prior to bedtime. Woke up about 2 AM felt awful itchy tingling on my scalp. I have medium length hair so I could not see my scalp up close, but I grabbed whatever I could for relief - the wifes leave in conditioner spray bottle. Got some relief that night. Same thing each night for a week. Then it turned into the midnight back itches. Up every ten minutes with the back scratcher. After losing too much sleep i tried Benadryl which worked wonders. Problem was, it was making me depressed, which i later found out is a common symptom of over use. Now I take one Benadryl every other night and suffer the other nights. One more strange symptom is that if I bend over to do something like tie my shoes or check my tire pressure, the head tingles come back which turn into massive scalp itch. HELP!

Sometimes it feels like i have my arm in an ant bed. Nothing seems to help, I get so frustrated that I literally want to cut my arm off. I take benedryl and it only works when I take enough to knock me out. It seems to happen mostly when I am stressed out. I really wish I could get some relief from this.
