Bizzare, symmetrical dots under chin

I have no idea what's going on, and there is very little about anything vaguely like this so far in my searches on the internet -- perhaps the collective wisdom of the WD forums can come up with something?

The rash, for a lack of a better way to term the thing, first appeared noticeably on a Friday evening. Before taking a shower, I noticed what looked like a bruise in passing on the underside of my chin. Upon closer inspection and palpation, it was nothing of the kind. There were about two or three rows of almost diamond-shaped dots, reddish-purple, that were almost in a pyramid formation. It looked like I'd had my head pressing into something for a period of time. The dots themselves were not raised, were not itchy or painful, and it was not a bruise.

I had not switched to any new personal care products in the past week, no new meds, food, anything -- and considering I've seen my body go through a fairly severe allergic reaction, I'm fairly positive that's not what happened here.

The next day, they were more present, fading towards the edges, and the ones there previously were better defined.

Other than the fact of their presence, there was nothing abnormal about the experience. The dots began to fade by the following Monday, and were all but gone that Thursday.

It's been about a week and a half since this happened, and I'm experiencing other problems which are likely not related, but will be happy to supply at anyone's request if they think they're likely to be relevant.

Does anyone think they can help?

  • I have the same thing on the bottom of my chin, did you ever find out what the cause for it was? I'm curious to know if this is something I should be worried about. Thank you so much!

  • I had this one time in 1988. They were flat, red spots in 2 or 3 rows under my chin. Not raised, not itchy. Just spots that faded in a day. I did take a pic of them because it was so weird. No funny jewelry, didn't sleep on a meat cleaver, etc... I wonder what it is? almost perfect rows like 3 in the first row, 5 in the second, and maybe 5-6 in the back row. huh.

  • I have this too, I get this about once a month and it stays for a week or more before fading away and coming back again. A different pattern each time. This time I have the symmetrical rows formation that you mentioned which is very odd. I was searching it up online and I came across purpura which sounds most like it. I suffer from Behçet's disease which is auto inflammatory and related to vasculitis as it affects skin, blood etc... I think it's linked to that. So if you've had any other problems including muscles joints skin blood stomach etc I suggest getting seen by a specialist not an ordinary doctor I find they don't know what they're talking about most the time and most of them haven't even heard of my disease! Best wishes to you all and hopefully we find out what this weird rash thing is!

  • I currently have it as well... Mine are in a line and then some stray ones... It kind of looks like a smiley face and I am kind of worried because this happens 1-2 times a year... My friends always notice it before i do, and they look like someone took a pencil and just poked me with it and leaving the lead dots there... Although I don't recall being stabbed in the chin with a pencil so I have no idea what this is...

  • I've had this many times too! Can't find any explanation on the internet. I haven't had it recently, however randomly I just got them on both sides of my hip/bottom. Any explanations? So weird!

  • I have this as well right now - I have been looking it up and most websites say it is either an allergic reaction or petechiae/ purpura. I have this on the inside lining of my mouth as well, it doesn't hurt or itch. Just very odd, wish I knew exactly why it happened.

  • Exact same thing has happened to me. Woke up this morning and noticed them thought it could have been the way I slept or something but just came to bed again and they're still there. Looked it up because never heard of anything like it before. It's about 12 dots 4 in each row. So strange would be really grateful if anyone had any insight??

  • I noticed the exact same thing under my chin yesterday after I showered. I'm going to email a picture to a distant cousin who's a dermatologist but it's freaking me out...

  • My distant cousin/ dermatologist just got back to me and said that it looked like a reaction from something that came in contact from the outside, not any disease. He just said to think about what I have recently rested my chin on. Thats pretty much what I figured and I can't think of anything unusual that my chin has come in contact with. He said that it's nothing to worry about but if it gets worse definitely go see a doctor in person.
