  • Actually canker sores are not contagious--they, like cold sores, are often hereditary, but unlike cold sores they are NOT contagious. They are also NOT a form of herpes. Check out this page from the mayo clinic (one of thebest in the u.s):http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/canker-sore/DS00354

  • True canker sores, inside the mouth, are not contagious. Cold sores, on the dry part of the lip are caused by the herpes virus and are contagoius.
