I have been experiencing these symptoms for close to 9 years. I have sought medial advice on several occasions to only be told the usual.

It's might be folliculitis..
You need to lose weight(i am 175lbs, && 5ft 5in)
Maybe your not clean enough..(I shower every day religously)
try wearing looser clothing...

I have taken all this advice.
Even if i felt it was slightly off base and applied it to my life.

Now, in the past couple years i have NOT seen a doctor for this problem due to embaressment...

I have developed several 1/2 dollar size(somtimes larger) absesses which are incrediblly painful in the pubic reigon, under my armpits, & breasts... They leave horrific scars and there are also cyst like lumps under the skin in both area's...

Also some of these abscesses will drain but unfortunatelly WILL NOT HEAL!

Now, i am left with these holes in my skin that drain, giant absesses, and huge hard lumps that don't go away...

I am soo self concious that i cannot date
I cannot go swimming with friends..
I can't even get dressed when shopping in stores
because people try to say that i have herpes (which i am 100% sure i don't)
I had them swabbed and tested..

It has become soo emotionally painful
that i have considered suicide...
&& i am only 22 years old... I need help!!!!

please somone =[

I will send pictures if nessissary....

Sincerely,

Lyzi

  • Blaze - seriously, take a rest, or just start your own thread on this subject! It is really getting annoying! Lyzi, Your docs sound like they are doing a great disservice to you. Have you actually been tested for Herpes or MRSA? What have they found in the "swabs" and have they actually taken a biopsy? Do these lumps itch? Is there bleeding? Is there thick pus? If pus, what color? Are you taking any medications currently including birth control? How is your digestion - any problems with gas/bloating/loose stools or constipation? How long have you suffered from this and have you had periods of "remission"? In Chinese medicine your condition is usually caused by a toxic heat and phliegm accumulation. You may benefit from a good acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist. Have you tried any topical ointments? Colloidal silver or lavender oil? A good herbal aloe product like Herbal Aloe Force skin gel? Topical garlic? What is your diet like? What foods/drinks do you eat on a daily basis? Do you take supplements? Sorry for all the questions, but they will help if you can answer them. Best wishesDOM

  • U poor thing.........i feel for u. They are awful !!! Dom i would also be interested in ur reply to this problem also. What i do know through trial & error & desperation. Ive had so many antibiotics, swabs, going to hospital to get them lanced & so on.......also some never come to a head & the min i stop taking anitibiotics they flare worse than ever........They flare worse when im in alot of pain with TN..........sorry miss lyzi, im just giving a brief outline. This is one thing i do now that does help me to draw boils to a head quicker & works for me.......I do this twice a day, sometimes more if im working at home. I use Clinique Clarafying Lotion No.2 on a cotton pad on the affected area. Then i put on E45 cream (u probably cant get that cream where u are) but any good cream for skin conditions would do, its really just a good cream for dry skin......anyway ive found that doing this helps me bring them to a head without having to get them lanced........ I have also found if i stop doing this ritual they flare very quickly again..... so i keep at it......have also found even when they flare again it never is as bad as it would be without use'n these lotions. Also it weakens the skin on the wee cyst things & ive been able to burst them......and if u see a wee hair that is trapped under the skin but not turned into a boil yet.....it helps to get them out. I know its not a cure....but it really does help me. Good Luck :)

  • It sounds like Hidradenitis Suppurativa. Hidradenitis suppurativa or HS is a skin disease that affects areas bearing apocrine sweat glands and hair follicles; such as the underarms, groin and buttocks. It is more commonly found in women and can be present under the breasts. The disease manifests as clusters of chronic abscesses or boils, sometimes as large as baseballs, that are extremely painful to the touch and may persist for years with occasional to frequent periods of inflammation, culminating in drainage of pus, often leaving open wounds that will not heal. Drainage provides some relief from severe, often debilitating, pressure pain. Flare-ups may be triggered by stress, perspiration, hormonal changes (such as monthly cycles in women), humid heat, and clothing friction. Persistent lesions may lead to scarring and the formation of sinus tracts, or tunnels connecting the abscesses under the skin. At this stage, complete healing is usually not possible, and progression varies from person to person, with some experiencing remission anywhere from months to years at a time, others may worsen and require surgery in order to live comfortably. Occurrences of bacterial infections and cellulitis (deep tissue inflammation) may occur at these sites. HS pain can be difficult to manage.HS often goes undiagnosed for years because patients are too ashamed to speak with anyone. When they do see a doctor, the disease is frequently misdiagnosed or prescribed treatments are ineffective, temporary and sometimes even harmful. There is no known cure nor any consistently effective treatment. Carbon dioxide laser surgery is currently considered the last resort for those who have advanced to its highest stage, where the affected areas are excised, and the skin is grafted. Surgery doesn't always alleviate the condition, however, and can be very expensive. It is possible that there is genetic predisposition to the disease. HS is not contagious, and is not affected nor caused by good or bad hygiene. HS is often called an 'orphan illness', due to little research being conducted on the disease at this time. Because HS is considered a rare disease, its incidence rate is not well known, but has been estimated as being between 1:24 (4.1%) and 1:600 (0.2%).

  • It sounds like Hidradenitis Suppurativa. This is my guess too. They thought I had this condition, but it's not what I have.

  • I agree with the diagnosis of Hidradenitis Suppurativa, I say this because I am also a 22 year old female with the same condition. And have also been told all of the same things by doctors that you have, as well as have all of the same symptoms, signs, and conditions as you. As of right now (August 2008) I have been living with this for 13 years (since I was 9 years old). It started out with the boils or lumps in my pubic area, and didnt advance to under arms and under my right breast until I was about 19. I have horrible dark brown and purple scars all over my inner thighs and all over my pubic region, as well as under my arms. Under my arms ooze from all the abcesses (gross I know!) and it smells just awful, most of the abcesses are under the skin but clearly visible. Nothing makes this any better, or aleviates the pain. I have tried the hot compresses, the loose clothes, weight loss, and countless antibiotics. All of the antibiotics dont help, some of them help until the medication has stopped and then everything is right back. I have found one medication that helps as long as I continue to take it religiously and that is CIPRO. I am actually going to see a dermatologist soon (yet again) and have even consulted a surgeon. Good Luck

  • I have not tried any herbal remedies because I do not know of any. If you could suggest some that you know of I would apreciate it. I am going to see another dermatologist in a few days, on August 27th.

I am going to see another dermatologist in a few days, on August 27th. These are some things I would try, though I can't guarantee they will work or cure your condition: -try to find Herbal Aloe Force Skin gel. This stuff is fantastic and very effective for a variety of skin conditions. google for info. -try a colloidal silver product. This is very antimicrobial and antifungal. -green tea washes are excellent - also antimicrobial, antibacterial and antifungal. use a hot green tea bag on the lump. -try a salve with comfrey, calendula, and eucalyptus and tea tree oil. - you might want to try apple cider vinegar, organic only. Since you have been on so much cipro, I absolutely recommend you get a good quality PROBIOTIC supplement and take this daily. This is essential for getting your immune system back. You can find all of these things online at www.vitacost.com or at any good healthfood store. A good naturopathic or Oriental medical doc may be more helpful than your dermatologist. IMO dermatologists don't do alot other than prescribe meds that control symptoms. Best wishesDOM

  • Yet another problem I have that others have here. I always just believed it to be pimples. I have had this problem ever since I first started to have acne. They can occur on the face but mainly on my inner thigh at times, pubic area, and under the arm. As with the original poster they left open holes in the skin that you could see into. What I did that helps them heal is first cleaning the area with peroxide or rubbing alcohol, then rubbing it with neosporina to make sure I dont leave the hole open and covering it (if possible with a band aid) and within 24 hours each time they seem to close up no problem. Another place they occur on me and often is in the ear lobes. I have had both ear lobes at least twice swell up on me a great deal to the point people looked at me weird. According to the doctors each time this happened to my ears it was cellulitis (which was caused by these small cysts that happen in my ear lobes). If anyone tells you its an std just ignore them they have no idea what they are talking about. I've had this problem starting around the age of 10 and I am now 26. I have only went a few days at a time without having some kind of cyst somewhere, I also have the dark scars you spoke of on the same areas and sometimes they go away with a lot of time (mostly under the arms and near pubic areas). Ive been to a dermatologist a few times and was given something called minocycline which is a type of antibiotic and it really did help as long as kept taking it. The problem is its nothing you can take for a long period of time nor would you, because some of the side affects includes staining/yellowing of the teeth (which luckily didnt happen to me), but one thing that did was being out in the son any longer than 10 minutes and I would start to get tan very quickly. At one point I had to walk a few miles and I got so dark that when I took my shirt off it looked like I had someone elses head and arms sewn to my very white body lol. Im not the type that burns easily so instead of being burnt I just got really tan really fast. Anyway if you have it bad and its getting to a painful stage I would say at least get on some antibiotic to relieve it, its only temporary but when it gets bad its almost necessary (Ive been there too). I only get it severely perhaps a few times a year if that, otherwise its just a painful nuisance a few cysts under the arm or elsewhere here and there. Whatever you do dont agitate the area, dont put pressure on the cyst, absess or whatever you call it if you dont usually it will start to be less inflamed and will hurt a lot less. In my lifetime nothing has bothered me more than this problem, other than pityriasis rosea which is a ton worse than this cyst problem trust me on that... having both though really sucks so hopefully this itching and hive-like problem goes away soon or I will go mad.

  • Now I am taking something called Solodyn but I am told to only take it when I get a bad flare up because my body will get an immunity to it and then it wont work. The problem is that its constantly bad, and the pills cost $650 for a 30 day supply (thank gosh for insurance, now I only pay $40). I am going to look in to all of the things that you suggested. As of right now I havent taken any medicines because I was pregnant, however I just had another miscarriage. Thanks for the suggestions.Cassandra

Do to your past and current antibiotic use you are likely to have candida overload. You may benefit from a good candida cleanse with herbs like Oregano oil, pau d'arco tea, caprylic acid and others. At the very least you should be taking a good quality probiotic to help counter the nasty effects of the antibiotics. Please consider at least trying something other than antibiotics, which further disrupt your natural flora and compromise your immune system. Best wishesDOM

  • I have the same symptoms. Here is a list of things that work for me that I established after several months of trying different things.- use Dove desodarant for sensitive skin every morning and after each shower- wear 100% cotton tops (t-shirts with spandax make the bumps reappear the same day)- always take showers right after gymFollowing these 3 rules keeps the symptoms at bay. As soon as I decide to break one of the rules, the bumps come back. Hope, it can help somebody. If you know about a way to get rid of those for good, please post it...

  • My boyfriend also experiences these large, extremely painful lumps/abscesses under his arms, in his groin, sometimes on his face (under his beard) on his eyelids, and even once on his eyeball. The lumps hes had under his arms have been there for about a year and are just horrible. they are constantly draining, constantly hurting, and i just feel so bad for the guy. Also we are a young couple just out of school starting up our lives and are not on insurance yet. Does anyone know the cost of going in and getting them lanced? emergency, urgent care or make an appointment? i really have no idea what i'm doing here but since he has yet to do much about them I have to figure something out because he is in so much pain its affecting every part of both of our lives! also are some people more prone to this than others? is ethnicity a factor? i hope i hear from you soon, also I happen to know a dr who treats diseases, cancer, sickness.. in an organic fashion, she works with doctors to organize a plan to fix you "from the inside out." we received that colliadial silver from her and currently my boyfriend is taking about 6 vitamins and supplements a day from her, also another lotion to concider is "emu oil"... again I dont know much about any of this but have been doing a ton of research lately and it seems my goal is to keep on with the fixing the inside first with all the vitamins and supplements we've received and in the mean time go in and get what abscesses he has now lanced. I hope this helps you and I will continue to watch this stream for more info...thanx so much

  • I had my first underarm abcess at age 17, went many years with out any then a viscious string in my mid-40s. I had to have several lanced when it got to where I could not walk. I now take a daily maintenance dose of minocycline, but have had some minor recurrences both genitally and under my arms. I've read and been told that these skin eruptions are related to diabetes, perhaps even insulin resistance. I was diagnosed with diabetes II about 10 years ago, around the time of the most severe infection. If everything else is negative, be sure you have your blood sugars checked and keep yourself as clean and DRY as possible (do not wear synthetic materials that do not breathe). Check yourself on the junk food and follow a carb conscious diet. I keep a bottle of Bactine spray that seems to work almost on contact.Yes, when docs aren't sure of a cause, they will ALWAYS tell you to lose weight. Most of my health problems improved as I gained weight; and actually most of my health problems have caused me to gain weight...This is a particularly embarassing problem, but I have had nurses tell me that it is not all that uncommon. YOU are not alone...see a dermatologist, not a GP.

  • I have suffered from the same problem for about 10 years now (since I was 25). I've been dermatologists and doctors previously about the problem, but have never been given any thing that helped or any real reason for why it happens or what really causes the condition. It seems that there are many more people that have this than the medical community seems to realize. I have a few other friends who have the same problem. They are all female. I just hate it. I can't wear tank tops or essentially anything sleeveless and forget about a swimsuit. It's just way too embarrassing and also when I begin a relationship it can be pretty embarrassing as well. I haven't tried any of the herbal remedies suggested above and have written them down to try. I will report back with any results. Would love any further information or suggestions from anyone who might be able to help.

I'm dealing with one currently...after many years and three surguries in the same spot. Doctors haven't been much help. My last one before this was so painful I wanted to cut it open myself. Sadly, I lost my health insurance when I was laid off, now I'm stuck with home remedies and old RX meds as my only option. I finally turned to the net for some help... at this point I'll try just about anything to get rid of this pain. I get painful:mad: cyst on my groin (I'm a woman) it's not only LARGE but embarrasing when I have to have my fiance help get warm towels...etc while I'm laying flat b/c I can't walk. I will try some of the remedies I found here. Thanks for sharing your stories.

  • hi i'm from england and have had 3 breast surgery's last year due to absesses.... but on the mend now....... if the cyst or absess conected to a gland get them to remove the gland and eliminate the source... thats what i had done. if that cant be done soon use a sugar and soap poultis..... scrape a bar of soap with a knife and mix the scrapings with sugar apply to the affected area and cover with dressing.............. it wont make it go but does relive it.........(do not apply to open wound though). good luck .x
