Hi,

I started having shoulder pain in January of this year. Started out very subtle and then got to the point in May (after 3 months of physical therapy) the pain was bad enough that I got a cortisone shot. I had a bone scan and everything was ok, then had an MRI and it showed inflammation and fluid in rotator cuff area. The pain is still there but very subtle off and on and bothers me more on some days than others. It did leave almost completely after the shot for a few months. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have continued to do my physical therapy at home. I stopped for awhile and the pain got worse so I started back. Will this go on forever?

Thanks.

  • for what it is worth - years ago i had my first cortisone shot in my shoulder - it was painful and have had two total in my life - not wanting more cortisone injections, I began taking ostio-bi-flex and have taken ever since. I believe that it has helped me. Do I still have pain sometimes - yes - but it is all so much less than it was. Good luck.Debbie

  • hi i have had a ache in my right shoulder at the front between coller bone and armpit area for approx 4 months, it seems to go away for a couple of days at a time occassionally. it feels worse on occassions when i breath in but not all the time and also feels worse when i reach forward to pick something up from floor or when i pull it inwards (if i pick something up from the left side of me with my right arm for example) other then that i have full movement with no problems. the worst its ever been is the day after i had been out for the evening and spent over 2 hours on the dance floor. i have had blood tests for inflammation and a full blood count which were all normal and am waiting physio therapy. i have also had various other problems on and off but not as consistent as the shoulder problemrib and sternum pains and tendernessback and sides both upper and lowerneck ache occassional stiffnessheartburn and burping up nasty tastesand re diagnosed with asthma this year due to low peak flow readings in morning and slight dry cough on waking.like to hear from anyone with sugestions advice or similar problems.kind regards to all and thankyou for reading

  • With these types of complaint, physio theorapy can cause more harm than good. If you are getting worse with PT then you are one of these examples.Though a bit painful initially, rolfing techniques are brillient for frozen shoulders or conditions like yours. Often there is a tendon or muscle that has become so tight it causes havoc, but once it is loosened the joint can go back to where it should be. But make sure if you do go to rolfing and you do get relief, not to undo all the good work by stressing your shoulder with over activity. Follow closely the instructors advice; this is hard becasue when you feel great it is hard to resist the temtation to try the new shoulder out before it is ready!! Also check out Alexander technique. Often a combination is needed. My pilates instructor does a bit of everything with me.Asthma. Buteyko breathing technique will work wonders. Years ago a young asthmatic girl was unable to do anything, her grandmother took her to a Buteyko bloke and several years later she became an Olympic Aqua arobics hero in Russia. This techneque takes a lot of work and dedication to master; so does getting to the Olympics.agape, searchingsam

  • Hi, I have a shoulder problem too , and I feel like a big baby. April 12th, I was in a car accident .Of course, I was sore all over . I noticed swelling on my left shoulder where the seatbelt was and the er doctor said thats just from the seatbelt. I was still sore 4 days later but did a 16 hour shift at work ,and I woke up the next morning unable to move my left arm above my head and could not touch my right shoulder. I went to the family doctor and he did xrays and everything looked fine told me to rest my shoulder and it shoulder be better in a week. Week later still swollen and stiff so the family doctor sent me to an Orthopedic doctor more xrays and he said I strained my AC muscle and the knot and swolleness was due to muscle bunching in 2 weeks everything should be fine. Now, its December I can lift my arm above my head but I can hardly touch my right shoulder ,and I still have the knot and still swollen . Has anyone had anything like this before?

  • This may help those in search of shoulder pain answers. Sept 22, 2006 I fell down a full flight of stairs @ work. I was holding the rail with my right arm nearly the entire time, at one point my feet went airborn & my right hand never let go of rail thus my right arm was straight back & up to the 2oclock position i blacked out & that must have been when i finally let. my body was parallel to the stairs when my body slammed down on the right side. I went to the hosptial they took xrays of the front of my shoulder region & saw nothing but said i needed to see an Ortho the fllwng Mon. My work sd they prefer I see the reg Doc they use & not an Ortho. The doc sd my entire shoulder region was badly bruised sprained etc & would heal in 2-3wks tops. After initial swelling & bruising went down, I was able to move the right shoulder a little & noticed a tearing sensation in the front, it would make a popping sound @ the same time but then followed by 2-3 hrs of excruciating pressure on the outside of the arm from top of shoulder to elbow. The doc finally did an MRI & i had a fracture 3/4 across the humerus head(tip of shoulder).4mos later still getting popping, tearing & pressure & seeing Ortho surgeon he sd Mri wont show nerve damage but popping, tearing, & pressure most likely from torn or stretched nerve the runs across the front side of shoulder. I go for a nerve test next week to confirm. Eithor way Ortho said if torn Nerve damage is almost always permanent if only stretched & proper steps had been taken in the beginning there may have been possblty of fixing but doc waited to long to refer me & healing process started while nervs/tendons were still stretched as doc never brace my arm to take pressure off shoulder area. Its been 5mos & the pressure/popping are still but now my different part of my right arm turn ice cold if i do any repitition foward(ie:typing). For those having shoulder pain please dont delay having it checked out if you pulled/stretched the nerves/tendons with the proper treatment it can heal but waitng can resultin 15,20,30,40yrs of excruciating pain.

I also suffer from sweaty hands. less feeling in my left leg and chest pains which feel like there is something wrong with heart. I have also had a bad injury many years ago and i feel all of this is a result of that. I have had ekgs and chest scans and my heart is fine so i can only conclude it is the injury that has done it. This has been going on for about 6 years or so.I was also diagnosed with asthma this year. I find that is i regularly exercise i am much better. Now I have moved to another country where i pay costly for my healthcare I am going to have every treatment possible. I feel that my arm injury has really caused many if not all of my symptoms of numbness and general discomfort.I am glad to hear I am not going crazy!
