Pins & Needles

I've been experiencing annoying pins & needles down my left arm for the last 2 or 3 days.
I notice it when I put weight on the shoulder, say when I rest upon an arm rest.
The P&N goes away within a few minutes after I move my arm away, ie take the weight off my shoulder.
Therefore I'm assuming it must be a problem in my shoulder, eg a pinched nerve or something in my shoulder or neck?
I'm 53 yrs old. I also have some arthritic pain in my big toe, (maybe psoriasis arthritis) so also thought it might be spreading to my shoulder.
My GP is a waste of time, so any suggestions?

  • I have Peripheral neuropathy which causes pins and needles when I lower my shoulder. What you may have is nerve compression coming from your shoulder or neck region. I started with compression problems in my elbow from leaning on it too much, shoulder issues from sleeping with my arm underneath me which caused nerve compression, its like a pinched nerve like pains with tingling, I find I have to shake it out to get the feeling back. What I did was see a Rheumatologist & he suggested a cortisone shot to help with pain, the tingling went away for a bit also along with the pain. I usually get relief 6mths or more. Good luck hon As EvErCat

It would be wise to see a physiotherapist for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Your symptoms may be arising from simply placing pressure or stretch on the nerves of your arm (with certain positions) or there may be some other conditions contributing to your symptoms. Check out the following links for some of the more likely diagnostic possibilities:Thoracic Disc BulgeCervical Disc BulgeT4 SyndromeHope that helps and good luck with recovery,PhysioAdvisorwww.PhysioAdvisor.com
