vaginal itching

I've had an itchy vagina for almost a month now off and on (some days I don't notice it, others drive me crazy). I used monistat thinking it was a yeast infection but it didn't go away. I have no irregular smell or discharge and I'm not sexually active...so what could it be? I've always been kind of sensitive down there ever since I was little...but besides a yeast infection I have no clue. I don't have the white discharge so I'm thinking it's not. When it first started I noticed a sort of yeasty smell that's why I thought it was one, but that has since gone away. Also, it itches mainly on my vulva and on the outside where hair grows, not on the inside.

Any advice? I cannot afford to see a doctor as I have no insurance and I just saw one for another sickness.

  • Go to your free county STD clinic under Health Department in your phone book. Could be anything.

Went to gyn. but was told it is because I am going through menopause. Just itching, no other symptoms, except sometimes it keeps me up at night. Dr. finally suggested using the cream you use to treat vaginal infections and just putting it on the outside of the vagina instead. It has really helped. Tried other meds like Vagicaine which caused severe burning. Oh my gosh! I'm sticking to the monistat cream. It works best so far.
