I had my annual pap smear test and according to the result, I have moderate trichomoniasis with a shift in vaginal flora with bactrerial vaginosis. I am surprised with the results considering I haven't been sexually active for the past nine months as my husband works overseas. What are the possible causes of my contraction of the infection?

  • Sexual activity is the ONLY way trich is transmitted. No matter what anyone says, it cannot be transmitted via toilet seats (per the CDC). The BV is unrelated to sexual activity. It is just an overgrowth of vaginal bacteria. If you are 100% sure you have had NO sexual activity - of any type - in the last 9 months, it could be a false positive. Ask for a retest.

  • You've probably have had it for a year or more and didn't know. Make sure he takes meds when he gets home or you'll get it back.
