I'm new to this board, and a bit nervous discussing such a sensitive issue, but am really at my whit's end! So, I'd really be very greatful for any input anyone has for me!

Ok, so here it goes! ...

I have had my period now constantly for the past 7 weeks, and although I have the Implanon contraceptive, am usually very regular (28 day cycle, 3-5 day period - even with the Implanon). I tend to have moderate blood loss, lately with lots of clots. I am nauseated pretty much all the time, very tired, pale, often dizzy (probably due to my low blood pressure and blood sugars - but not usually this bad). Over the past few days, I have had a fever, chills, migraine - like headache (so far lasting 6 days without vomiting), muscle fatigue (not related to sport etc). I'm not under any major stress and there's no psychological / social issues etc.

I have been to several GPs plus a gynecologist, urologist, general surgeon etc. but no one has come up with anything (have had laparoscopies and colonoscopies in the past - last yr). I am sexually active, and have been screened for all STDs, pregnancy, other gyne conditions, etc - all of which have come back negative. I'm pretty certain I'm not pregnant (nor have an extopic pregnancy etc), so what else could be causing my symptoms? My iron levels are fine, so it's not anemia!

It is really starting to ruin my life, because I'm so lethargic and run down - its starting to affect my studies - any ideas / suggestions of how I can cope with this???

  • I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms. I have had similar symptoms, except nausea, for about a year now. I have also had a laparoscopy and an ultrasound, but my OB/GYN said she found nothing. Have they put you on birth control pills to try to control the bleeding? I have been on four different kinds of birth control in the past year and none of them have helped. I'm not sure if birth control pills would help you or not. I'm not sure what else to suggest for you because the doctors haven't been able to figure anything out for me either. I know how difficult all of this can be. My prayers will be with you as you are going through all of this. Good luck!

  • Thanks for you reply... It's good to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem, despite how troublesome and worrying it is for you too!I currently have the implanted contraceptive in that I've had for 2 yrs now (due out in September), and have never had any problems with it before. Prior to that I was on birth control pills for 4 ys straight. Unfortunately, I can't actually go back on them - the last one I was prescribed was not high enough for me, but there's a family history of blood problems (DVT) so I'm not allowed to get the higher dose. I'm planning on getting the implant out soon instead of waiting, but I suspect this problem will continue - I know with Implanon you can get irregular periods, but they certainly don't last for now 8 weeks of constant bleeding... I'm just finding it so hard to cope right now... with study (and exams tomorrow), and living interstate from my family and friends, and of course my regular doctors, it seems that no doctor here believes I have a problem... lately they refuse to even send me away for blood tests - I swear my iron level must be down even further by now since the last time I was tested... but the more I demand, the more they seem to refuse :(
