I have been battling with this problem for about 4 months. At first it seemed just like thrush - red, itchy, burning, except I had a green/yellow discharge from my cervix/high vagina. Went to a gynae. After failed prescription thrush medications, a sample was sent to a lab which came back negative for yeast, candidiasis and STIs. It was positive for a bacteria from the PSEUDOMONAS species, and I was put onto antibiotics for 5 days (Ciprobay, which the sensitivities showed it was sensitive to). I think it had an impact, but I started my period straight after i finished the antibiotic regimen and then after my period I still had itchiness but a white discharge. I insisted on another sample which came back Negative again for all, incl Pseudomonas. Yet I still had the thrush-like symptoms and I was put on a 14-day treatment of Sporonox (treatment for Candida, expensive!). But its not working, and since the last sample was taken I have developed a green/yellow discharge again.

Reading up on Pseudomonas, I found it is actually a bacteria that is contracted in hospitals in wounds, and in cystic fibrosis.. I haven't read (even on the vast internet) about women getting a pseudomonas infection (or colonization) in their vaginas. But it is notoriously difficult to get rid of as it is naturally resistant to antibiotics. Usually requires 2 different antibiotic treatments, even though I was only given one.

I also do not understand why I was put onto a very expensive thrush treatment if my sample showed Negative for yeast and Candida, even though I had an obvious infection. Perhaps there was pseudomonas, but it was undetectable in the specific vaginal sample that was taken.
By now it has gotten to the point where I am emotionally distressed about my condition, I actually just cry when I think about it, and feeling very depressed. I am really desperate to get rid of it and worst of all, I have almost exhausted my medical aid.

If anyone has ever heard about it, or had it themselves and can offer me some advice or personal experience, that would be very helpful.
Thanks for taking the time to read my story.

  • Hi I find it very hard to believe that you did not get tested for a Trichomonas infection. The symptoms are intense itching, and a foul green yellow often frothy discharge. The way to diagnose it is put a specimen of the discharge on a slide and examin it while still wet to see the little flagellated protozoans tumbling about. You treat it with Flagyl.I hope this helps and you feel better soon.

  • Okay, I hope you try this, it is a home remedy and very helpful for bacterial and yeast infections. Your vaginal flora has been disrupted, with the strong meds you were put on. You need to rebuild the delicate balance in your flora, and this is the best way in my opinion: Get some capsules of probiotic (the best quality you can afford) and plain unsweetened yogurt. Place 2 capsule and open them up and mix into 1 tablespoon of the yogurt. Insert this vaginally every night for 2 weeks or longer if you can. At the same time take the probiotics orally. This treatment may be a bit messy and inconvenient, but it should offer immediate relief! I was put on Flagyl for BV when I was pregnant and thought I was going to DIE. This is a very strong drug with a lot of side effects. I went to a holistic herbalist who is also a midwife and she recommended this treatment. It worked wonders, and I have never had problems since. Please give it a try.Best wishes.DOM

  • Hello. Thanks for the replies! My sample was tested for Trichomonas, but was Negative. And I did not have a foul-smelling discharge anyway. I just find it strange that if it is thrush, and my flora is unbalanced - why is there no Positive signs for Yeast or Candidiasis (as what would normally be seen in typical thrush). I quit the contraceptive pill i was on (Triphasil), so I'll most likely wait a couple of weeks before I see results. Perhaps I'll try the yoghurt + probiotics mix in the meantime. IF all else fails, I'll go to another gynae.. Thanks again!

I had antibiotics which took care of the psuedomonas bacteria. I had two more paps afterwards and was found to be clear (although I got thrush from the antibiotics). The pseudomonas and the antibiotics really messed up my vagina, and really upset the natural flora balance. I ended up going to a dermatologist who had a look and she said I had eczema and she could see my vaginal skin was VERY irritated. She prescribed a dermatological wash to use down there, and that was pretty much it. It took a while to clear up. I also took probiotics for a while. I'm not sure whether it was stress or an imbalance in my flora - either way, the only thing I can suggest is that if you've been to a gynae and there is nothing wrong from a lab diagnostic point of view, go to a dermatologist.I hope this helps!Good luck...

  • Antibiotics, douches and powders just make the problem worse.I know exactly what to do should symptoms of BV recur. I stumbled across this site while searching for alternative cures for bacterial vaginosis online. I am really happy that treatment is developed putting so much time into researching what natural substances can do to help improve this painful and often embarassing condition. Once I followed this treatment I gave myself permission to let go of all of the drugs and trust in my body again. After almost three years of suffering I finally realized that listening to my doctor was not working. It put an end to my BV misery once and for all using a Natural Treatment. Here is where it can be Found:http://doiop.com/bvcures

  • Vulvydinia and Lichen SclerosisYou want to know why no one knows or has answers to this and no cure...because these two symptoms are the result of multiple underlying issues.....keep reading....Ok..so after 2 years of build up of itching and 3 times misdiagnosed.... the itching and burning came to a breaking point. My labia started to look shriveled. My clitoris was swollen and itching...everywhere from front to back became itchy, sore and painful. and NO sex drive!! Sometimes there were tiny hard nubs near the surface of the labia. I was using everything from Vicks, Vaseline, ice pack and olive oil along with a major scratch session..sometimes keeping me up all night.I finally booked an appt. This Dr. took only ONE LOOK and said "Jock Itch"...which made sense at the time..I knew it wasn't yeast infection which I told her when I walked in..How did I know??? the itch was different. It was creepy crawly and had a biting sensation that would escalate and make me jump out of my seat. It almost had an electrical nerve cause. Also my only 3 previous yeast infections in my life were all accompanied by the "cottage cheese" discharge. This diagnosis seemed to make sense...as I NEVER had jock itch..nor knew what it felt like or looked like.Ok..got Neg on all STDs...treated two weeks on a cream..no improvement.Treated two weeks later on ANOTHER cream..no improvement.Back to Dr. office. recommendation..treat for yeast infection with "diflucan". A standard treatment. Even though I had already treated myself with "monistat"..TWICE before all this "jock itch" business..I again protested how this itch felt different from yeast infection. And since when does a YEAST INFECTION shrivel up the labia!!!!????two doses of Diflucan. No improvement.Back to Dr. office. - BIOPSY..this was the most painful thing!!!! Don't get one unless you absolutely have to..go figure she gave me one.Results...didn't show anything!!!!I also reported after biopsy I was also having rashes on my inner thighs..upper arms and I felt toxic from the waste down!! My legs, over the past two years had also felt heavy, numb at night and body itch all over..like a fly would land on my leg..then my arm..that's how it would feel like. Now she is saying Vulvydinia and Lichen Sclerosis...Treated now with cortizone creams and lidocaine cream. They did some improvement but after 2 weeks..it came back..with a vengeance.Went back for follow up...Even though I had an improvement she recommends giving me anti-depressent drugs to help "the nerve" issue .I'm thinking..SHE needs anti-pshychotic drugs..because she can't deduce her reality from science and logic!! Did everything I tell her in the beginning go in one ear and out the other? This is now 8 months since I started seeing this doctor..and I'm nowhere.So....I find another doctor through recommendation (in NYC) - an old school Doctor. He is so old school he accepts no insurance. He did take approx 8 tissues samples and in the same room tested for various virus and bacterial infections right in front of me while my legs were still up. He had a microscope RIGHT ON THE COUNTER in the exam room. I got to take a look and he explained everything I was seeing, and verified one of my biggest issues right there...and explained what he was doing and why!!!I also gave 4 vials of blood. He is checking hormones, thyroid, iron (too much too little) -- everything. I will find results on these in a few days.So here is it!!DRUM ROLL PLEASE.....what I have is....Some mild yeast AND....continue drum roll...Gardnerella Bacteria!!! it is a highly mis diagnosed bacteria. and why???No friggin microscopes in the Dr's offices!!! If my first doctor had a microscope..she would've seen my main problem right from the beginning. Now get this!!!! The "good doctor" says..you cannot treat one or two things. There is a reason why you were not able to fight off these two bacteria. It's your whole system that got out of whack for various reasons!!! It's a compounded issue! When I get the other results back..I will have a better picture of what is going on in your body.I was flabbergasted..I was immediately flashed back to the 70s! A time when logic and science was something that doctors worked under. When I had explained to him my 8 months of trouble..and how she just looked down and said "jock itch". HE WAS LIVID..He said, "You cannot just look and say yeast or jock itch!! It has to be thoroughly TESTED and PROVEN! THEN YOU TREAT IT.... Then he just shook his head in disgust. He was a really honest doctor..so it sounds like he was mad..but I think he was frustrated at seeing this all before..and from his point of view and FOR MY point of view. You could tell.Another shocker..This doctor is like a scientist and chemist. He invented a special steroid type cream that only ONE chemist in Manhattan makes for him. It cannot be found anywhere else..He will also NOT prescribe prednisone tablets..(which makes you eat like a horse)..he has a milder form of this steroid which will help get the labia back in shape.. and one other antibiotic specific for the Gardnerella. I have an improvement in my leg aches also in the 4 days following medication. After the first 24-48 hours of starting treatment..my labia looks almost back to normal. The itching is now much less frequent (down 80%) at the 48 hour mark..and was so productive the next day!!! (because I wasn't scratching)Also note..I had a bad infestation. Big skin sensitivity was brewing. Apparently, gardnerella behaves like a virus injecting itself into your cells. The cells become infected and the bacteria multiply and infect other cells. (Inclusion)You cannot screw around with this!!! Demand or find a doctor that has a microscope and demand he test for gardnerella while you are there along with hormone and other blood work!!!If you want the name of this very special doctor (nice older man) who is very thorough in his exam - he does "everything" including the most thorough breast exam, gyn and colon cancer screening ever. You will feel like you had months of diagnosis done in less than 2 hours!!! It is worth it. Let's put it this way..if you paid for your own individual insurance..it would be about the cost of one month.Email me in this forum for it and I will try to reply with his soon.GO!!!! Take care of it! I am so thrilled and I am going to be posting this in other vulvar itching forums where I see the same complaint treated OVER and OVER as a yeast problem.!!!!I would love for someone else to go see this doctor and VERIFY the results with me!!! I am so sad reading all the misdiagnosis on this very subject and I want everyone to know..the answer is simpler..it's just that your INSURANCE company doesn't want your doctor to do more than what is standard for common female problem.P.S. I found out through someone else that people fly in from Switzerland just to see him!

    8 Surprising Facts About Cholesterol

Did you know that one in six US adults has high cholesterol?

  • I have been itching "down there" for going on 4 months. I have been to several obgyn and dermatologists. I have been treated for fungus, yeast and even Herpes, but all of my tests have been negative for HSV and yeast. I have tried every natural and regular cure for all of the above. I finally went all the way to North Carolina to see a really nice female doctor who finally prescribed antibiotics for skin infections and the rash is 75% better. I've finished the course of antibiotics but still have some rash and itching, even sores formed causing very nasty scars on my buttocks and thighs. She never cultured the bacteria to see what kind. What is the name of the NY doctor who has the microscope. ? Why dont all doctors use microscopes and stop guessing.

  • I, too, have had Gardnerella vaginal infection for close to a year. I have tried probiotics both orally and vaginally, metrozonidale (boucou times), and also diflucan. NOTHING works. Now, I also have blood in my urine, a kidney infection and very thick mucous in my mouth. I underwent 8 infusions of venifer for anemia last fall that I also had never had. Things are going from bad to worse, MS, Lupus, Cystic Fibrosis have all been mentioned as possibilities. No one seems to know what to do about this. Been to Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, you name it, and it keeps getting worse. My energy is declining......and I am exhausted all of the time. Now, it seems like my throat is also having issues due to the thick mucous and possibly the Sjogren's syndrome I have been diagnosed with. I have fibromyalgia, Sjogren's Syndrome, interstitial cystitis, Anemia, hypothryoidism, endometriosis, you name it....but still no answers. I am desperate for help. My husband even took a tour with the military to Iraq for the last 8 months to help pay for my medical care and allow me to have the resources to pursue more medical treatment so that someone comes up with an answer. I am desperate! I am sick all of the time. I have 2 kids under 5 and my husband is deployed and I am getting nowhere. The doctor in New York sounds fabulous and I would even be willing to see him if he could help. If at all possible, could you please email me and tell me his information? Thanks for any and all help! :)

Please give it a try.Best wishes.DOMThank you very much for sharing this remedy. I my self was battling this horrible condition and no doctor seem to help, they prescribe antibiotics that kill not only bad bacteria but good bacteria as well, and the problem occur right after you finish a course of antibiotics. I was so emberrest of the smell and the discharge. But when i tried your remedy of probiotics and unsweetened yogurt i was surprised that it took the smell and the discharge away almost instantly. Now i am a new person, confident and free of BV, I will continue to do the remedy vaginally and take it orally as well. I even introduced Acidophilus supplements to my husband because it has a lot of good properties and this good bacteria stabilized the flora in the entire body.

  • I have been battling with this problem for about 4 months. But its not working, and since the last sample was taken I have developed a green/yellow discharge again.Reading up on Pseudomonas, I found it is actually a bacteria that is contracted in hospitals in wounds, and in cystic fibrosis.. Perhaps there was pseudomonas, but it was undetectable in the specific vaginal sample that was taken.By now it has gotten to the point where I am emotionally distressed about my condition, I actually just cry when I think about it, and feeling very depressed. I am really desperate to get rid of it and worst of all, I have almost exhausted my medical aid.If anyone has ever heard about it, or had it themselves and can offer me some advice or personal experience, that would be very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to read my story. i just signed up for OG (ORGANO GOLD) about 2weeks ago I MUST SAY THAT I LOVE THE PRODUCT I HAVE HAD BV(Bacterial Vaginosis) SINCE 2002.
