hi guys,

my girlfriend and i started having sexual intercourse about a month ago, but just recently i've been noticing some red spots and pain after intercourse. here is the full story:

we usually have vaginal intercourse (with a condom) for a good amount of time (like 30 minutes), but after a while i can't handle it anymore because the skin on the base of my shaft gets really sensitive and painful. we stopped once during sex to see what it was; the irritation was only around a few hair follicles, and we plucked some hairs out to see if they were infected hair follicles (it felt like ingrown hairs, but the hairs had already grown out). after a day, the areas where we plucked the hairs developed small, colorless scabs. they no longer hurt, but the fact that they scabbed over kind of scared me.

we were both virgins before being sexually active, so i must rule out the obvious stds. any ideas?

  • Please dont pull the hair cos it may cause ingrown hair unless you sort of give the skin a scrub every now and then during shower. The painful hair follicles could be due to constant rubbing and as a result the hair got pulled or entangled. I supposed after awhile your body/hair follicle will get used to the friction.

  • The problem I used to have is that the hairs around the base of my penis would get rolled up a little in the condom and be pulled on over and over with movement during sex. I have shaved that area for 2 years now and no more problem at all.

  • Actually, HPV or genital warts can cause these symptoms too. I'd get checked to be safe, escpecially if the follicles in question are in a close grouping, and/or the scabs are red/raised/fleshy. My 2 cents...

My 2 cents...dont worry about it.... i get ingrown hairs ALL the time after sex. always right after shaving and if the sex it too rough. dont pick at them/it - they will become infected and hurt like ***l. they will go away on their own. ive tricked myself into believing i had everything from herpes to hpv. I ALWAYS go to the doctor and she ALWAYS tells me that its just an ingrown hair. dont freak out!!!
