Hello, i am a 21 year old male from connecticut. about 5 months ago on january 26th I had unprotected sex with a close friend of mine. The very next morning my penis started to itch and burn. It burned during urination, and hurt all throughout the day. The pain stayed for about a month, then went away for approximately 2 days. Then it came back stronger than ever. Personally, i do not feel like i have given my penis time to rest, but i don't know how long i have to wait for it to rest before i can go back to being sexually normal again. I fear that i may go impotent and my ejaculations have been premature since. I worried about it so much that i even had to be hospitalized for mental health issues for 5 days. but from what i have been told and through all the tests i have taken and all the doctors i have seen to remedy my situation, they all have told me that "focusing on the pain will make it worse". Unfortunately for me, the pain never goes away regardless of whether i focus on it or not. Not focusing on it just makes me focus on something else. What it doesn't do, however, is make the pain go away. What i mean by this is that even if i focus on something else the pain is still there, however, it doesn't "hurt" because i am not thinking about it, even though it is still apparent when i am not thinking about it (it is a complex issue and hopefully that sentence makes sense to some) . No doctor or urologist wants to make a fair assessment on what it could possibly be and all the remedies i have tried (uristat, patience, patience... patience... anxiety medication, hospitilization) have not worked even the slightest. I wake up in the mornings with wetness around the cloth in my groin area and when i clench my PC muscle it feels like urine is literally figuring out whether it wants to stay in my bladder or come out, stinging my urethra inside the base of my penis. The pain shoots from the right side of my penis all the way down the shaft and itches at the head, shaft, base and pains in the muscles where my pubic hair grows above my penis and a couple of inches below the belly button. I have had numerous tests done including a telescope shoved in my urethra all the way down into my prostate and bladder, i have had my colon checked, i have had just about every doctor in central connecticut check me out (which is an exaggeration but i have seen doctors at least 50-60 times in the past few months). I have read into this and researched many forums and read many articles on the possibilities of what I might have and have found that many men experience similar issues, some of which are virgins. It is unfortunate, then, that this problem seems to be so common, and yet there isn't a doctor out there willing to give me a proper diagnosis. The pain doesn't bother me as much as not knowing what i have. during my most recent visit with a doctor he told me i was "perfectly normal" after my std test came back negative, which was approximately a month ago. The girl also got tested and was negative. I am a mess, and this has made my life a living ***l. somebody please tell me what is wrong with me and if there is light at the end of the tunnel. i can't stop crying, i don't feel like a man anymore, and this problem has destroyed my love life and 22nd year of existence. If there is anything anyone can tell me about this that may be able to help me, i would be greatly appreciative.

  • MarroonSand,Is it possible you may be allergic to your friend? (Women can be allergic to a man’s semen) I think an allergy would cause all the tests to be negative. If I were you I’d ask my doctor about the possibility of an allergy. Maybe even to your body soap, detergent etc. Also, have ‘they’ checked to see if your urine might be too acidic? Certain foods and drinks could be causing too much acid. Heck maybe you’re allergic to some food or drink for that matter. Funny thing about allergies is they can crop up out of nowhere, stay forever or disappear as mysteriously as they appeared.Another thing, have you looked into the possibly of a yeast infection? Antibiotics would only make a yeast infection worse. Try researching Candida.I’m sorry I don’t have an answer, but maybe one of my suggestions is your problem.Remember, it’s okay to cry, get depressed, and get angry. It doesn’t make you less of a man. You are experiencing a horrible time in your life right now but it will get better. YOU will get better. Keep researching; don’t stop looking for the solution to your problem. Don’t settle for anyone telling you ‘it’s all in your head’ because you know it’s much more than that. Nobody knows your body like you do. Your well being is important; find a doctor that feels that way about you. As a man I cannot begin imagining going through what your going through. But remember this: You are important! You matter! You will overcome!Good Luck and get well soon.

  • thank you both for your input into my problem. I just went to see a doctor recently and got a referrel to a urologist down here in Florida. To the first person that responded: thank you for listing all the possibilities that it could be. I did think about yeast infections before, but did not think it was likely that it could be one because of how rare they are in men. At this point, i am willing to test for anything and i do not want to give up, as much as i have to because it is becoming somewhat costly (at my age) for me to visit doctors often. What *****s me off is that they do try to say it is in my head, and i willingly nod and agree that i will wake up "some day" and the pain will be gone. Well it's not gone, and I still don't have any answers. I was just tested once again for STDs today, and will get the results back very soon. I am also getting an ultrasound done on my testes to make sure there isn't anything wrong in there (something i should have done at the very beginning). Once i get these results, i will be visiting a urologist on the 17th (next tuesday) and hopefully he will be able to give me some information. I will try to post the results of the following week come next wednesday, at which point i hope that they can figure something out, and give me some sort of plan to rid myself of this awful plague i have caught. To the second person who responded: It is rather comforting to know that there are people out there with similar problems. Don't ever take no for an answer like i have been doing, and make sure you have every possible procedure done to make absolutely certain that it is not something serious. Discomfort is ok if it is not life-threatening, but it has gotten to a point where I have forgotten what it is like to be healthy and happy. I have learned how to be somewhat happy, but i will never be truly happy again until i am completely healthy. And it feels like I will not ever physically recover from this. Learning to live with something like this is like having a full-time job. And if you already have a full-time job, it is even worse. I understand that our problems are similar, abeit very likely but they are not exactly the same, but not knowing what you have sucks soooo bad... I pray for your well-being, and hope that your problem sorts itself out, and if i find out anything regarding this over the next weeks--months--years even, i will make it a priority to tell you what i have learned. you have my word.

  • well i just went to the urologist here in florida and he seemed to be a pretty knowledgable guy, at least he was asking me better questions than all the other doctors that i have been visiting, he checked me out and decided that i might have a HERNIA. So in about 2 weeks or so i will be getting a CAT scan performed, whereby if a hernia is found, i will have to get surgery performed, hurray. This is good news for me if it turns out to be the problem, but i can't stress enough how horrid a journey this has been for me so far. So i really really hope that this turns out to be the case, because as surgery is scary, i'm willing to undergo ANY kind of treatment at this point to rid myself of this pain.

  • did you ever figure it out?

  • Yes, it could be a yeast infection but did one of those doctors ever give you a blood test for herpes 2? You don't need a rash on the outside to have it and it can drive you nuts with the weirdness sensations that it causes.

  • Hi I am a female of 30 I have been living with your symptoms for over 10 years it is by far the worst thing in my life. Some days i feel like dying from the pain it is so horrible. The Doctors have not been able to help me either i have been to over 100 doctors no joke but there are things that can possible help you. It sounds to be like you have Interstial cystitis. IT is an inflammation of the bladder and urethra area. Some days I feel normal somedays i am in pain. You just never know. Recently the pain has not went away at all but here are some things you can try. The Dr. did a test which is crazy painful the test is a catheter where they put potassum in your bladder if you scream like you are dying you have a positive test for interstial cystitis. YOU WILL KNOW. I am not allowed to have foods that are hi in acidic. Coffee, teas, chocolate, tomatoes, lemons, bananas and ALCOHOL. All kinds of foods with make your bladder crazy. YOu probably feel burning or maybe even tingling or feel pressure. IT is god awful. I understand you completely. Do not wash your underwear with soap use unscented soap. For some strange reason intercourse makes it worse, i still have figured out what to do about that. Excercise makes me feel a little better but not running. I had to completely give up running and anything that made my bladder bounce or move around alot. The dr started me on medicine as far as i know nothing has worked i have tried everything. ELmiron doesn't work, Antidepressants dont work. I am sorry just try to follow the the diet and soap thing that should help a little also stay away from hot peppers. BAD BAD BAD.

  • I've been battling similar pain for 3 months now. The pain is horrid. The IC Network website has a diet that has helped me condiderably. I live in the Napa Valley near grape fields and have been wondering if this disease could be associated with pesticide use. Anyone else have any input about environmental causes? Maybe all these pharmiceutical drugs people are using (Viagra comes to mind) are in our water supply or maybe it's the chlorine, who knows. Eight million people with this disease--something is seriously wrong out there.
