Pain during sex- help!

I've been dating this guy for 2 years. He's very understanding of my problem, which started when we began dating. The first time we had sex my vagina was so swollen I couldn't walk or anything. It was swollen about the size of an egg... the swelling went down the next day. I didn't go to the doctor out of embarrassment... Ever since then sex hasn't been the same. I often can't do anything because there is so much pain upon penetration. It has definitely put a damper on my once healthy sex drive. I've gone to a doctor once about a year ago and she just told me to use lubrication, which I tried and it didn't help at all. Anybody have any ideas? I'm clueless...

  • Could be hormones. Go for a thorough physical, with a pap, thyroid blood work...maybe you picked up a STD and should get a screening. Try different positions, like have him behind you and see if you still have problems..maybe he's banging into your pelvic bone, so different position...

  • I've had a pap come back regular- I also asked to be checked for any STDs and everything came back ok. We try different positions, nothing really works. It's so frustrating. I don't have a lot of swelling everytime but there is usually some. Usually we can't even have sex though because it hurts too much.

  • I have the same problem. I have been married for three years and have always had painful sexual intercourse. It's a burning/stinging pain. I have also had multiple negative PAPS, been tested for every possible STD, been to MANY OB/GYNs, and have been to two different Women's Health Physical Therapists. I have been diagnosed by one OB/GYN as having "vaginismus" which leads to overactive/over-developed muscles in the vaginal wall. I am currently seeing a women's health PT that is trying ultrasound therapy. I don't know if it's working, but I just wanted you to know that I TOTALLY know what your going through and I feel your pain. It's SO frustrating. Good luck.

  • Thank you for your reply. I have been to several gynos and they all shrug their shoulders when I tell them what's going on. NOBODY has an answer. I didn't think about going to women's health pt. Thank you and good luck!
