Lump Above Left Testicle

I just noticed a lump above my left testicle and somewhat in front (my left hangs lower than my right). It seems soft and when I try to squeeze it, it either moves further back into my scrotum or dissipates I can't tell. There's no pain along with it, but it's making me really nervous. I'm 18 and there's no history of testicular cancer in my family, but there is a history of prostate cancer. Help, please.

  • Well, it will probably be hard for you but you need to see a doctor and let him tell you what it is. It may be nothing but it might be something...find a nice male doctor..

  • Erg. Would it be wise to wait a week and see what happens from there?

  • Hello. Is the lump hard or soft? If it's soft, it may just be a varicocele. Varicoceles occur in about 1 in 3 men aged 16-30 (I think). They're usually on the left side, and are sometimes described as feeling like "a bag of worms". They're quite harmless, but can get quite big and can cause fertility problems in some men. I think wearing loose-fitting underwear aggravates them, but don't hold me to that.http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23068876/

  • Yes, that's what it was. I went to the doctor and everything you said is what he told me. That article pretty much nails it.

  • I just went to my regular doctor. I'm not sure what you would call him. It should be a pretty simple diagnosis though, if it's a varicocele. He told me that unless the bump is on the actual testicle it shouldn't be a serious problem(cancer). I would recommend seeing a doctor though, if for nothing else but to settle your nerves.

  • My boyfriend had the same problem (just as you described) and it was varicocele. If your testicle starts to atrophy, you need to go back in to see your doctor. Atrophy in the testes can cause infertility. You can also have surgery to fix this problem with very simple outpaitent procedures. =)
