I have been long suffering from what i thought was vaginal/yeast/bacteria infection.. My itch is unbearable sometimes however I do not have much discharge.

I have gone to a GP last year and she said its not yeast infection but some kind of allergy or reaction..something like eczema (wh I dont have on other parts of my body)..the meds she gave helped temporarily with the itch but I lost my medicine when I was moving house.. and my dreadful itch returned

Hence I decided to see a gynae and she did a Pap Smear, vaginal swab and also put Gynofort which didn't really do much..

I got my lab results for the swab test and Pap smear and both are NORMAL.

I know it's supposed to be good news but now that it's confirmed not a vaginal/yeast/bacteria infection, I do not know how to get rid of this itch which has been torturing me for so long!!

I have never heard of allergy/skin reaction/eczema at the vagina! Has anyone??

By the way, I have tried cultured drinks, yogurt, Canestan, no douching, no soap..and I ensure and maintain goof hygiene always!

Could the lab test be wrong? Shld I go for another swab test? Shld I see a dermatologist? Do they actually check the skin at the vagina?

Any contribution will be much appreciated!! Thanks!!!

  • ask for a blood test for herpes 2 specific.. thanks for the reply Monsterlove. herpes?! sounds serious... i've read on the sypmtoms of herpes and I do not have most of the symptoms like boils, sores or lesions..furthermore, i have had the same sex partner for the past years, and I believe it's the same for my husband. however I wld not rule ur suggestion out...and may still get that checked out. anything else that you guys might think it could be?

  • I had an itch down there that was unbearable too........I found the cause of mine. I shave my bikini line (maybe past that a bit) and I was getting new hairs and ingrown hairs that really itched! Now, it's waxing all the way and no itch. I know it is possible to get eczema down there. You can get that wherever you have skin, literally! The normal treatment for that type (if they didn't give you a prescription cream) is a very mild, hypo-allergenic, non-scented lotion applied often. It needs moisture. Of course only put this lotion on the 'outer' parts-- NOT internally. I guess I need to ask a very personal question (sorry!)....where exactly is your itching? Mine was on the labia majora, but if yours is more inside, my response will be different. I sometimes get itching on the labia minora, but usually only when I wear thong panties or tight pants. Make sure you are wearing cotton undies (or at least the cotton liner for that area) and you give yourself room to 'breathe' down there. It needs air! You might even sleep sans undies-- or go without during the day, whatever your fancy. Just some thoughts. I'm glad they have ruled out the more serious causes and I hope you figure out some way to stop the itching soon-- not a fun problem, but one all women experience sometimes. You are not alone!

Hi HarmoniumYeah.. i know the itch that you get fm shaving.. and it's not that type of itch. Yes, I do wear cotton panties most of the time and I usually sleep w/o any undies to air it. I do not wear panty-liner & I do not douche to prevent the pH level to be affected..I also try not to wear tight pants to let "it" breathe.. I am not on antibiotics and I clean myself front to back. Moving on to the more personal answers..thanks to you, I have just looked up on the vagina parts into details :)Mine is different from yours.. the itch is mostly at labia minora, opening of vagina and sometimes can spread to the anus or clitoris.. so you can imagine how bad it is on some days when all these parts are very itchy.. I'll be cursing at myself for having whatever i'm having to make me itch.. Out of desperation, I have even looked at myself there to chk any abnormalities.. As far as the naked eye and as far as I know, it looks pretty normal.. the colour looks normal (i think), no sores, lesions, spots..I don't have any weird or foul discharge and smell. My sex life so far has slightly been affected as on some bad days i may have scratched it so much that it becomes sore. I usually will take a long time in the toilet as I will use cold running water to soothe the area.. From the pap smear, swab test, conazole(a kind of fungicide), Canestan, Gynofort which all dont seem to really work, I think I may not have yeast/bacterial/trichomonas/herpes infection or UTI... To move forward, I do not know what and where else to seek treatment as I don't know what I have..

  • I just spent months running to the GYN to find out why I was suffering from intense itching. My PAP smear also came back normal, and there was no odor or discharge. I had a biopsy done last week, I have Vaginal eczema. I was shocked, I had never heard of it. I was prescribed a steroid cream and that has really helped. Cherck with you GYN again.

  • Hi everyone,I have had a similar problem for the past 10 years: terrible itching and skin irritation with lesions, swelling and what not but all the tests always came back negative. No one could find any solution for me whatsoever. Mild cortisone creams would work but only temporarily. Recently, I found an incredible solution and yet IT WORKS: I started putting (at first simply out of despair) a simple hand and body lotion on the entire private/anal area. The lotion is AVALON ORGANICS, OLIVE AND GRAPE SEED, FRAGRANCE FREE. This lotion completely calmed the skin down and the itching just stopped! Please try it out as it can't hurt but might help you. This is THE ONLY cream that ever did anything for me and after ten years of complete and total discomfort, I have finally had two months with no irritation at all! Amazing, no? I sincerely hope this might work for you too.
