Ok I'm hoping that someone can help me here. I had a cold sore on my lip the other day. At first I thought it was a pimple so I popped it. I then used the restroom and came into contact with my genital area. The next day I had some pain and swelling in that area. Does this mean I have genital herpes now? Has anyone ever experienced this? I know I need to see a doctor about this, but at the present time I don't have a sore. I know that there are blood tests that can be done but since I already have oral herpes I don't know if there is anything that the doctors can tell me at this time. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm really confused and very scared!!!

  • i am sure you know that a cold sore is a form of herpes, Type 1 in fact. If you want to know exactly what it is you have down there, you have to see a doc. or gyne. There are blood test that can be done. But since you already have type 1, cold sore, it will do you no good because a blood test will only tell you if you have the virus at all. And my dear you already do, hence a cold sore. There are special test that can detect if you have type or type 2 but docs are hesitant to do it. i know because I went through the same thing. I feel for you and understand the fear. Try not to worry too much until you have another symptom down there and then get it checked out.

  • I know how you feel about this...I was scared when I first went through all this. But you wrote this in Aug, so maybe you're alright now. I found a site that was helpful, that might also help you. It's:http://www.herpesadvice.orgtalks about relationships, dating, medical stuff. It's worth checking out!
