I had a complete hysterectomy in 1995 (including both ovaries) and went through menopause immediately following the surgery. I was on Premarin for many years. Finally, all my menopausal symptoms stopped.
Lately (the past few weeks) I have been experiencing MAJOR hot flash events. They are always irregular and unpredictable (happening every few days). I can always tell when one is coming because I get prickling skin (like thousands of tiny needles) and I turn purply-red starting on my head down to my feet. Sometimes the coverage is blotchy. I become extremely hot to the touch (no sweats at all) and stay that way for several hours.
When the "flash" starts lessening in intensity..the heat turns to chills (and gooseflesh) very much like the after-effects of sunburn. The skin all over my body is sensitive to touch for several more hours after the episode.
I have not used any new soaps, shampoos, perfumes, etc. recently, nor have I eaten enything other than my normal menu. I have no new pets.
Back in 1996, wne I was experiencing hot flashes, mood swings, etc. due to menopause...I NEVER experienced anything this intense.
Is it possible that menopause syptoms can re-occur 11 years after ovaries are surgically removed from the body...or is this an indication of another illness/allergic reaction??
