Heavy Periods

I'm 45 years old. In 2007, I've had heavy, long periods. In Feb 2008 I had a merina IUD inserted. I was told my periods will stop. It helped alittle as far as heavy but I bleed (spot) about 20 days then nothing for about 10 days and then back to bleeding. Somes days are really heavy with lots of blood clots.

I'm going to my doctor next week who will probably want to do "scraping of the uterus" I think that's what they scrap. I've never been put under before and I'm nervous about it. Do they put you in a deep sleep or a light sedation?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Bernice

My doctor did a D&C and ablation 4 weeks ago. I had a period two weeks later, but it wasn't as heavy or painful. I have a uterine fibroid tumor which couldn't be removed during this type of surgery. It was just a light sedation. I was at the hospital for little more than 1 hour.

  • Thank you for your reply. Could you or anyone else tell me what it's like to be put under? I'm really nervous about it. I told my husband I don't like anyone to make me sleep, I want to fall asleep on my own. LOL I never had an IV (which I heard hurts). I don't know if I'm even allergic to it. Then it scares me because Michael Jackson used the stuff. Granted it was at home but he was under a doctor supervision. Then I saw on Evening Mag or Inside Edition or ET (one of those LOL) and they showed this guy having surgery using the same stuff and his heart stopped but they got it beating again and he was OK. I don't like the idea that a tube will be down my throat. How long was the procedure for you? What is it really like? Do they put a gas mask on you and make you count backwards?Any information will be appreciated.Thank you,Bernice

I am in my thirties and have experienced certain irregularities and bouts of excessive bleeding, but soon discovered that making a few changes in my life and lifestyle, put my cycle back on course.Check out this article:http://www.helium.com/items/1639655-causes-of-menstrual-irregularitiesHope this helps!Elaina Wicks
