I had a vaginal smear done on Thursday (for strep group B it had been previously found I had), I got the results of this back today (Tuesday). The swab results showed that the antibiotics I was on for the strep and a staph infection (in my nose) have worked and both swabs came back negative.

The swab was done only 2 days after my period finished and my period was normal so I aint close to ovuation time yet even if I ovulated around the time a normal person does. (I dont anyway as I have PCOS so have 42-43 day cycles if not longer.

A few days after having this swab done (on the weekend, this weekend).. I found myself getting a lot of clear mucus (like raw egg white). This was similiar to what I get at the time of ovulation.. but there is HEAPS of it, much much more than I get when I ovulate (and as I said, it isnt time for me to ovulate yet either).

Today.. ( 6 days after I had the vaginal swab done).. Im now bleeding a little.. so not only have a lot of clear mucus going on, but now there's blood in it too, its all blood streaked. It ISNT a smelly mucus as what I thought would happen if I had an infection??????

?? what's probably happened?? Does this sound like an infection or not??? Has the doctor probably given me one from having that swab done??

  • Odds are no. He may have used a lubrcant to do the examination. That usually stays in there for a while after the exam. Then it is dischaged. Also if he was scraping he had to be scraping something wether it was walls or cervix and that could be the reason for the blood. And sometimes you might even get a sharp pain in the canel but that would be from the scrap also. If you lips feel puffy or irratated you may be allergic to laytex. I had the pleasure of finding out the hard way I was. OUCH! Unless he did something strange like take his gloves off or ask the nurse that should ALWAYS be in the room during any type of pap to leave. I don't think you should have anything to worry about.

Thanks to the one who replied to my post. What you said I think was correct as my problem after the blood streaked mucus came out, well then it just suddenly cleared up, things went normal. So I do think now it was maybe just after affects from the vaginal swab and the lubricant involved all clearing out and my body responding to it
