I had this weird occasion at my work where a friend came in and told me that one of my coworkers had herpes and not to share any drinks with her. I'm not sure if this was a lie or true, but I have shared drinks with her and smoked out of the same pipe on several occassions, and now I'm just not sure. About a month a go I got a bump on the top of my scalp, like a pimple but scabbed over, and then I just got another one the other day as well as a bump in my ear. Is this herpes? Is it possible to get herpes by sharing a drink with someone? Is it just herpes simplex (mouth) or could it be genital? I'm really confused and not sure if these bumps are symptoms? Does anyone know?

  • Yes, you can get Herpes simplex from sharing a drink with someone. You can get it from using the same lipstick, kissing, just about anything. Actually 90 percent of the population has the herpes simplex virus, but for most of them it lies dormant until something brings it out (stress, hormones, sun etc.). People can transfer it even if you don't see a cold sore because it can travel through your spit or from the inside of your mouth. You can't transfer it from your lips to your genitals unless your gentials come in contact with a herpes simplex sore on your lips or other area of your body through oral or regular sex or any other direct contact. Not sure about your scalp...
