Bump on the Head of the Penis

I have had a tiny rounded bump just on the edge of the opening of my urethra. I beleive this is called the Meatus. I don't know exactly how long it's been there but it's been at least a few years. Recently it grew to about three times its original size and now actually alters the flow of urine slightly. Its size and appearance is very much like a small mosquito bite but is not itchy. during the second day it grew even larger to the point where it was being irritated. I believe it was because it was raising so high that it was exposing the inner part of the urethra and thus exposing very sensative skin that rubbed on my underwear. It has since subsided (1 week total) and gone back to the small mosquito bite size.
I am married with two children. My wife and kids are healthy. I never got tested for an STD but I was pretty safe before our marriage. I examined every photo that I could find on the web of an genitle wart or irritation related to HPV and none of the photos look at all like what I have. Also, it is isolated to this one growth and nothing else has shown up on my penis or anywhere else.
I visited my primary care doctor who had never seen anything like it but gave the opinion that it did not look like an STD. The doctor's opnion was that it was a cyst. The occurance of this seemed very random but I did have sex with a condom about a week ago which have done with that same box of them but I don't use them often with my wife. I still have concerning questions.

Is there another STD that would do this that has lied dormant or something that the doctor didn't know about?

I have a urologist appointment, is the right person or should it be a dermatologist?

What would a cyst on the penis exactly mean if that is it?

The appointment is a month away. Should I be demanding sooner?

  • Ask for a herpes 2 blood test, along with insisting that your wife get a pap test to rule out hpv. Herpes can resemble an insect bite.Stick with the dermatologist. There's some pretty funky stuff out there, like Molluscum contagiosum.
