Bump on Penis- Possible 'Misdiagnosis' and Other Issues

Some time ago, I developped a pink bump on the shaft of my penis about 1 in. from the head. The bump is/was not painful, itchy, etc. However, to be on the safe side, I went to a doctor. He looked at the bump said it was a normal cyst and that unless it increased in size or did anything else strange that there was nothing to be concerned about.
Recently, said bump started to increase in size and go from pink to red. Like a fool, I squeezed the bump and a bit of white (like from a zit) came out. No other bumps have formed or anything but, needless to say it was off to the doctor again. This time, as the family doc had said to 'seek medical attention immeadiately' I went to urgent care. The doc in urgent care seemed extremely concerned (thought admitted to knowing next to nothing about urology). He called the area urologist and I have an appointment in a few days. I've started applying heat compresses and hydrocortisone cream and the redness and increased size of the bump have both gone away.
While waiting I've done some research and given that its just the single bump, no other symptoms, etc. I am wondering/hoping if this was just a sebaceous cyst or something that become inflamed. Is it likely that this is an STI? Again, I've had this small pink bump for quite some time now and have displayed no other symptoms. When I was informed by my doc that it was normal, I resumed normal, sexual activity and my wife hasn't caught anything (STI's are part of her normal testing yearly do to other conditions; we stopped having sex when the bump became inflamed). Forgive me for rambling but I am extremely worried and the days leading up to this appointment are DRAGGING on. Anything you guys can tell me just from the info above is greatly appreciated. Thank You.

  • Well now, you do have a problem. It could be a cyst, but sounds like you have doctors in place to tell you what you have. Why a urologist and not a dermatologist? It could be molloscum contagioum, hpv or syphilis, on the other hand. It doesn't sound like herpes because it's not going away. If it went away and came back, I would think herpes. Get a blood test for syphilis if you have been sexually active, along with herpes 2.
