Bleeding and Pain During Sex

I'm 24 yrs old and I have always had abnormal menstrations which were very heavy, severe cramps and irregular. About 3 yrs ago I started a low estrogen birth control pill and that seemed to regulate things for me. Well starting last October I started to experience an uncomfortable pressure in my lower left abdomen during and after sex, but it would only last a few hours and was just uncomfortable and not painful. I mentioned it to my doctor when I went in for my PAP that month and she did not seem worried, btw my PAP was negative and always has been. Then in December I started to bleed bright red blood after sex and the uncomfortable feeling in my lower left abdomen was now a stabbing pain that would last through out sex and several days afterwards. I went to see my doctor and she did a full work up and everything came back normal, so she recommended changing to a full dose birth control pill and having a pelvic ultrasound (normal). Well the birth control has completely eliminated my cramps and now my periods only last 4 or 5 days but each and every time my husband and I have sex I get the exact same symptoms. I want to be able to have sex with my husband and not have a 4 day recovery period! I do have an appointment with an OBGYN in 6 weeks. I don't know where to go from here and I am having difficulty finding information on the symptoms. Thanks for your help and advice!

  • There are a few possibilities and I don't know which of these have already been ruled out. It could be from infections like yeast and chlamydia, it could be from uterine fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, etc

  • There are a few possibilities and I don't know which of these have already been ruled out. It could be from infections like yeast and chlamydia, it could be from uterine fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, etcThank you for the response. A yeast infection and STD's have been ruled out. I had an ultrasound done and the doctor told me that there was no evidence of fibroids or cysts. My doctor told me that it is difficult to diagnose endometriosis and that she did not suspect that is what I am dealing with. That is why I am going for a second opinion here in a few weeks because she just doesn't seem to know. Thanks again.

  • I have had bleeding during sex in the past and just wrote it off as being attributed to rough sex. I now cannot have sex without bleeding heavily. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I went to the GYN and was tested for STDs and had a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound, all were negative. I have been having mild to sharp pains in my lower abdomen, mostly on my right side. The bleeding and the pain has me really concerned, especially because no one seems to know what is wrong. I have discoid lupus and stopped using the low estragen pill about 9 months ago. I was having problems with the bleeding before and after taking the pill. Reading the online information is really freaking me out because my symptoms point to ovarian cancer. Please help!
