bleeding after sex/previous history of chlamidya

Guys, I have a problem. I just started being sexually active approximately 3 months ago. A couple of weeks after I first started having sex, I went and got a pap smear done. My gynecologist told me that I had chlamydia. Obviously, I was devastated. I've only had sex with my boyfriend. So i told him the devastating news and he got tested. Of course, it was positive. So we both went back to our respective docs and we both got one dose of azithromycin. With this drug, we were supposed to abstain from sex for one week until it takes effect. Since we were both extremely paranoid, we waited almost three weeks before we resumed contact, and even then, we ALWAYS used protection.

Fast forward to 2 weeks after we resumed sexual contact. We had sex again and I started bleeding after intercourse. It wasn't heavy bleeding but it was enough to stain the sheets. Since I am due to have my period, I assumed that this was the reason but it has been two days since we had sex (and I bled) yet I still haven't gotten my period. So my question is, does the fact that I bled during sex mean that the chlamydia was never treated or that I got it again? Or could it be a lingering effect from that infection? Like just tenderness in the cervix or something. I am hoping against all odds that this isn't a big deal.

I've also read somewhere that the bleeding could be caused by me not being lubricated enough during intercourse. This may have been the case because there was minimal foreplay during those sessions (and for the record, I've never experienced bleeding during sex before this episode). Also, the blood that came out was clumpy and very dark. I'm really hoping that this is just a preview of my upcoming period and not an indication of (still) untreated clamydia, reinfection or other problems.

Please help, I'm really worried. :(

NOTE: When I first acquired chlamydia, I experienced some symptoms like lower abdominal pain and abnormal discharge. Since resuming sexual contact, I haven't had any of these symptoms reccur. So this makes me think that the bleeding isn't due to the infection.

  • HiI am not a doctor but I work in the medical field. From what you have written I would say that you were very responsible and because of that you can not have the chlamydia returning and producing those symptoms.Lack of lubrication can cause this problem but I remember seeing blood after sex before my period was due and it is now many years later and I am still alive. So dont worry.Hope everything works out

  • I know you are supposed to get retested 3 weeks after treatment and at the least 3 months after treatment to make sure the infection is gone. I would get rechecked.

  • if you and him have been treated, and have been having protected sex, then the std should've been cleared up.. usually when i have sex before my period (a day or 2 it's supposed to come) the intercourse will force my period to come.. defenitly go back to the doctor and get it checked if you still haven't gotten your period yet. hope that helped

  • Worriedgirl, not to make you more paranoid, but has your boyfriend been tested for other STDs? Based on what you said, it sounds like you had unprotected sex at first. He might have other STDs and not know it- you may want to kindly ask him about getting more tests done. At the very least, if you're bleeding, you want to make SURE he isn't infected with HIV. Its difficult to know what to do because you dont want to offend him but you dont want to get any more diseases. It seems you only had sex with him but if he had an STD, he's had sex before.

  • I have the same problem and all the doctors i go to just keep checking me for std's (which come up negative all of the time). I also get severe lower abdominal pains, bleeding in between periods, bleeding after sex that is heavy enough to believe its my period when it's not and I can't get any answers. Your best bet is to...of course get tested to make sure the std is gone...after you have concluded that it is explain all symptons even if you think they are nothing to worry about and the doctor should be able to determine what further testing you may need...I just read that there are more than 10 major reasons for bleeding after intercourse...so don't give up until you get an answer...GL
