My 18 year old daughter just called to tell me she spent 5 hours in the hospital today and was told she has cysts on both of her ovaries and that one of them ruptured. They sent her home, no follow-up, no treatment????? Is this normal???? I thought they should have been more concerned, maybe only a mom is concerned. They say they will go away on their own?? Does anyone know anything that can set my mind at ease???

  • Most women get cysts every month and they typically rupture and go away. This is very common. The cause for concern is the size of the cyst and mostimportant is if the woman is no longer having a monthly cycle. Once the ovaries stop working(after menapause) cyst can be very dangerous if they are still there. 18 Yrs olds just have to get proper pain meds to get them thru . As long as the cysts are not growing. The test for this is a vaginal ultrasound. this is the most accurate way to know.
