My mother suffers from a cough which usually occurs in the morning and usually when she feels cold.

The cough leads to her coughing up mucus and possibly blood although she hasn't told me but I've seen signs of this - bloody tissues.

She is now becoming ill almost every two weeks and it's due to her feeling run down or cold like symptoms and I am wondering whether they are connected.

She has always had this cough from when she was young but now it's getting worse.

The doctor recommended a nasal spray for the mucus but it doesn't work.

I don't think she suffers from a shortness of breath as she goes to the gym almost every day and there are no problems there

Any ideas??

thanks in advance
