Smell of Blood

Just last night when I had an every day kind of cough, I sensed a mild smell of blood. Later, when I sneezed, the smell of blood was more distinct. I'm otherwise normal. I tried to bring up some spit and was able to spit out a little bit, but it was clear. I still have these symptoms this morning.

Searching WD and other Internet resources didn't match these symptoms, usually directing me to coughing up blood-tinged sputum, which I'm not. I'm not sure if this is potentially serious enough to call a health care provider.

  • I've had this too. Sort of like a vague scent or taste of blood sensation in the back of the throat. Then no sign of blood in spit or after blowing nose. It went away and I never figured out what it was. Someone opined it might have been from a mild sinus or ear infection that cleared up on its own, but who knows.

  • Same for me. It went away and that was it. Interesting theory about a mild infection. I did have a mild cold right after which ran its typical course. Thanks for the observation!

  • A friend of mine used to have that. She complained of a bad smell and taste of blood, but saw none when she coughed. At first. The next night she started coughing up blood. It was mild though. Her parents took her to the ER, and the bleeding was stopped. I think it was a weak blood-vessel in her throat. Fortunately she is all better now.

  • I've had the same symptoms and so do my two younger children. It just comes on suddenly sometimes especially when sneezing, coughing, bending over or when I am just feeling tired. The smell and taste is so strong. I notice that I develop a headache immediately after. This happens to me everyday so it is getting to be very annoying because I feel dizzy everytime.

  • I recently started smelling blood, (and it's a very strong smell), when I bend over, breathe in quickly or deeply, or just randomly. I've noticed I get headaches easier and I'm really tired throughout the day to where I need to take a nap most days. I'm 25, I shouldn't be experiencing these symptoms I can tell something's not right. Anyone find out what's causing the smell of blood?
