My dad has had this cought for about a year. Its sounds dry and he'll cough so much that he passes out for a few seconds. He dose not have insurance and even if he did I dont think he would see a doctor. He is in my house almost everyday and I have 5 kids around. I dont think its contagous but I dont know what the heck it is. Any ideas? He is and has been a smoker for over 40 years, hes 60 years old and dosent talk to much about his health except saying its getting worse or its better today, I dont know what to do. Ive heard some people mention TB and that really freaked me out. Do people often pass out during a coughing episode. It sounds like he running out of breath when it happens and its been happening a lot latley. Please help.

This is a form of Copd, which is a pulmonary disease. No, its not catching, but there is no cure. He has to take care of the symptoms. I have it and Albuterol inhalers, Mucinex and Benadryl do help. Drink lots of water too.
