Hi everyone -

In January I developed a dry cough, along with an annoying sensation in the lower throat - it is there all the time, but worse when I breath. Its feels like a raw, tickling sensation.

The cough has stopped, but the sensation when I breath is getting worse and worse - so bad that I am avoiding all social situations as it's so uncomfortable to talk. The past month I also feel like it's hard for me to breath and that I am short of breath.

I am also coughing up phlegm a few times a day (I have to bring it up - meaning I have to make myself cough to bring it up...). Sometimes green or yellow. Sometimes VERY sticky. Twice in the past couple of weeks I have seen streaks of blood in it.

The entire time I have been seeing an ENT dr who at first said he saw some post-nasal-drip, but last week he said he doesn't see this anymore. He gave me medicine for allergies, but it didn't help. Now I have been referred to a lung dr, but of course it takes a month to get an appointment. My family doctor said that 'maybe it's stress' - yeah right!

I cannot sleep at night and I am not functioning with this sensation in my airways/throat. Again, it's like a ticking, raw feeling, not that anything is closed or blocked.

Any ideas?

PS. I am 34 and a non-smoker. All of my blood work and a chest x-ray came back normal back in Feburary.

I have been experiencing the same thing for about a year, recently saw a specialist who gave me steriod inhaler, helps a little but still unsure of what is wrong. Any further info you might want to share that may help.Thanks.

  • Hey guys, I have had the EXACT same problem for over six months now.. Also started in January with a cold and a fever. Then the cold and fever disappeared but the constant phlegm production and tickling and raw throat remained.. Doctors have yet to discover what's wrong with me.. There doesn't seem to be anything that eases the coughing up of the phlegm or the tickling.. It's horrible.. Any ideas about how to cure this or at least make it so I can go social again without constantly coughing are most welcome.. How did you guys get rid of it? Did you get rid of it in the first place? Thanks,Roel
