I have been experiencing extreme fatigue, chest pain and a generalized feeling not being well. Two days ago my son took me to the ER, because the chest pain was so severe. I was diagnosed with pleuracy sent home (after 24 hrs) on oxygen because every few minutes my oxygen level dropped for a few seconds to the low 80's. I had a CT of my lungs, which showed only that one lung is slightly compressed. My ekg was good.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why my oxygen level would be dropping? I have never smoked but I am 50 lbs overweight.

Thank you

  • Well i might be able to help you a bit with this one, having just gone through all the tests myself for the same thing. All results of my test where good & they could find no reason for it, so the conclusion is at the min is, ive simply developed bad breathing habits, which on reflection, i believe this may well be the case with me. Which is all very conflicting as i impress the point of deep breathing during bouts of pain, this is how i become all very aware of it, but alas i seem to fall back into shallow breathing at times when i am not in pain, therefore my oxygen level have been plumeting, sorry its a long story that isn't relevant to your problem, moving swiftly onwards :D Anyway, one of the things my cardiologist told me, sometimes someones blood can be too thick (too many cells) therefore they are not all getting oxygenated, this was not the cause of mine, its also not a major problem. Have they tested your blood for this ? Would you have a tendency to shallow breath ? There are some other very rare problems with the heart that can cause it, but it has also been ruled out with me, sorry i cant remember excatly what they where, but it was impressed on me that it was very rare, so please dont worry about it, & there are usually other symptoms or signs that would indicate this & i had none of them, they just done it to be sure. Carrying excess weight may also be a factor. Also sleep apnia may also play a part. I hope this helps a bit & im sure others here will be able to help you in more detail with actual medical knowledge. Best wishes :)
