Often Gasping for Air

Earlier this year, I began to have difficulty breathing to the point that I had to bend over and take a deep breath or I thought that I would suffocate. This would happen all throughout the day and at night I would have pain in my chest and my back. The chest and back pain would remain the next day and I would be gasping for air all day. I went to the doctor on my college campus and she told me that it was probably just anixiety and stress over the upcoming exams or possibly homesickness. I had not been stressing over the exams, but I was homesick, so over the next few weeks I just tried to relax.

The problems went away for about a month then they came back. I had an EKG and the doctor said that everything was fine. So I was told that I was probably just under some stress... and I wasn't.

Now, I'm on my summer break.. no stress and spending a lot of time with family, but my symptoms have come back. I will have the problems for a few weeks then they go away and come back. Its the same as before: gasping for air every few minutes, bending over to be able to breathe deep enough, and chest and back pain in the evening(the pain is most present when I take a deep breath).

I haven't been diagnosed with asthma or any other lung problems. If anyone has experienced this or knows what the cause of my problems might be, I would sooo appreciate it. I dont know how much longer I can take this.
