I'm really concerned about my dad's "flu" as everyone calls it. It started last Thursday, he had an itch in his throat and took just regular medicine. Friday, he comes down with a really bad fever, 103 degrees and a bad sore throat so he went to urgent care and they prescribed him penicillin and one other medication; however, all weekend taking those 2 meds he got a LOT WORSE. His sore throat turned in a really bad cough. He has a lot, I mean a LOT of excess phlegm, really bad sore throat and his cough is really hoarse. He coughs really hard when he tries not too; sounds more like he's choking. Also, his sore throat/cough is so bad that it's messing up his talking. He can barely talk without coughing, it's almost a whisper. So, we went back to urgent care yesterday and they changed his meds. So far, he hasn't gotten worse (it's only been a day). It's seems the penicillin actually made his cough worse, and my mom says that it seems like he has more of an infection rather than a cold or whatever.

The coughing is what's scarring me. I have never heard/seen anything like it. Again, his cough is very hoarse, coughs vigorously, seems like he's choking but he really isnt, and it's like his voice box or throat or lungs or whatever is badly scared or something. The good thing is that he's not coughing up blood (which is a bad thing)
*the cough sounds like a person that has bad lungs from smoking too much (my dad has never smoked)
*he's gotten colds/flu before but nothing like this at all.

Just a son here worrying about his dad, so it'd be great if you guys could give me some insight on what sickness his symptoms may resemble, or is it just another flu. I appreciate any comment and feel free to email me at:

Just really concerned that's all.
