Have had chronic cough assumedly due to post nasal drip. Recently, everytime I cough, I get a sharp pain in my back (left, middle section). Wondering if this is a lung problem or back (muscle) problem. It only hurts when I cough. Recently, also, I have found blood on my pillow upon waking (now twice). Would anyone have any ideas? I have been to my doctor with no diagnosis.

  • If I coughed up blood I would sure go back to my M.D. and tell him/her about it, and if he/she didn't pursue it I would get a second opinion from another qualified medical doctor also. Your doctor might put you on antibiotics if there's an infection, do a chest x-ray, or run that simple skin test to check for TB. You didn't say if you're a smoker or if there's anything else you are breathing in your work or home that could be hurting your lungs. If so, be sure and stop breathing it. Seems like the back pain could be as simple as a pulled muscle in your back from the coughing motion, or could be more serious, only a medical doctor can tell you. I'd definitely go back to the doctor as soon as possible. Good luck and God bless.

  • I have respiratory problems that started much the same minus the blood. I thought I had pulled a muscle in my back. It was just below my shoulder blade, 1st one side then the other. Now I am on O2, lots of meds and had to quit my job. I pray you are not experiencing the same things I,m going thru. Keep up w/all of your records & find a doc who will take you serious. Just curious, have you had any anesthesia within the last 3yrs of this onset? God Bless,Debo:)
