hiya, i was wondering if any-one had any experience with this?

I get luck crackles/rales in my left lung on expiration, they are quite loud and can generally be heard without using a stethescope, they dont clear with coughing, all plehgm is normal. I get short of breath, and have palpitations about 3 days before a get my bad chest, but they only last a second or two.

The crackles are worse when lying flat or on my left side, so i end up sleeping on my right side, the dr gives me antibiotics but i do not believe i have any infection?

This will last for about 4 or 5 weeks then gets better, i get it a few times a year.

has any-one any clue whats going on??

p.s. i don't smoke i gave up 3 years ago

  • Any chance you could have been near an area that may involve small particles that may have entered your respiratory tract. You also say that phlegm is normal, do you have any sputum brought up if so what colour is it and what does it smell like?

  • Hey Marc, Thanks for replying, i haven't been near any small particles that i know of? In general when my chest is really bad, the plegm is still clear and there isn't very much of it. Which is why i dont believe its infection, its very odd. its mainly crackles, chest pain & shortness of breath and the odd palpitation, M X

  • Are you being seen by a lung specialist? If not, I would certainly recommend it. After many tests and finally a lung biopsy,I was diagnosed with a rare interstitial disease. One of the many symptoms is crackles.
