Excessive mucus

For the past year and a half I've had excessive mucus in my throat. Every day I am producing lots of mucus and have to clear my throat many many times. The mucus is usually clear/white, thick, slimy, and sticky.

I know what I am about write sounds crazy but its true. I truly believe that my symptoms are contagious. It seems as if people who sit by me (school and work) get sick and eventually develop the same symptoms as mine. I have noticed many times that people get stuffy noses or seem uncomfortable when they sit next to me. Sometimes they develop a cold within a day or two. And eventually start clearing their throats which hurts me. Making the same noise that I make which sounds like "mmm mmm'. I have isolated myself from everybody in fear getting them sick. I am depressed, sad, lonely, and miserable.

I have seen many doctors and ENT's but have not been cured or properly diagnosed. Currently I am taking a steroid nasal spray and allergy pills. Which do not help at all. I am also using nose irrigation which at first seemed to work but lately has not been as effective. Probably because of the change in climate.

If there a reader who has shared this same problem I would be happy to here from you. Any kind of support or advice would be appreciated.

(forgive my writing, lots of I's)

  • Hi there,I have a throat clearing problem that I've been searching for answers for too. I know how frustrating it is. Anyway after seeing many MD's & talking all sorts of allergy meds thinking it was sinus drip or allergy related, I sought the opposite approach. It could be a gastrointestinal reflux (GERD) problem. There also is a condition called LPR which is larynpharengeal reflux that I think is my problem. I've got my MD to confirm that, but I've been to so many MD's, I don't think these guys are good diagnosticians. I've settled for searching for answers myself and getting them to confirm. So long as they give me the scripts. Anyway, I've been to Nexium for about 6 months now and I do think it's helping.Good luck... Ohhbob
