Coughing up blood.

Last weekend I had a really bad itch in my throat. I coughed very violently. The next morning I woke up and was coughing up blood. After a few minutes it would die down, it has been doing this for a week. It has lightened up a bit, but I am still worried.

I went in for chest x-ray, and that was fine. The doctor said it was probably something ruptured. If anyone else has had this happen before, how long does this last?

There is no pain, but the feeling up coughing up blood and the blood building up, it is very uncomfortable. Thank you in advance.
