Hello,
I am here to ask about my mother's problem, as she seems to have coughing Spasms during nights, as far as I am aware she has had her 5/6th coughing spasm.

but the last coughing spasms have become a bit more regular, because of which I am worried about her wellbeing.

as far as I am aware of symptoms they are, dry coughing, low blood pressure, as well as cold hands.

I was wondering if anyone could help me about her health issue...
she is about 60 years old.

  • Has she every been checked for asthma, or ephezma? I have asthma and would have horrible coughing fits at night. They got so bad that I would sleep through them. My grandmother also had asthma, and also ephezema. She would have coughing fits a lot too. For sure you should really take your mother to the doctor, if she won't go on her own.

  • Is she a smoker? I agree that a ashma/ COPD assessment would be good. A full CT scan & xray and pulmonology work-up to rule out pulmonary fibrosis.I hope she gets better.

  • It sounds as though your mother isn't getting enough oxygen. If she breaths mostly through and out her mouth this will case this and the symptoms you describe. and if she is breathing directly into her lungs by mouth breathing she will be breathing in dust particles and what ever else floats in the air and as a result this can irritate the lungs and enduce coughing.Look into Buteyko breathing. Some people who practice this even tape their mouths at night and report better sleep, no coughing and a lot more energy. (Can't snore much with a taped mouth either. lol.)It is also used to rid the symptoms of asthma and other breathing disorders.all the best.Agape, searchingsam

  • Certain medications including blood pressure drugs could cause coughing. I would check with the doctor who perscribed them for her.

  • I reading through some of these because I've been subject to coughing fits typically in the morning, evenings and whenever I walk into a cold area. I've ever smoked and enjoy good health otherwise. It is a dry persisent deep cough that feels like something is caught deep in my throat and I can't get it out. Unfortunately I lost my job and have no insurance to go see my regular doctor. I'm at he mercy of free clinics that seem to be so overwhelmed, their resources are not sufficient to provide the medic follow-up oftentimes needed. Any ideas or suggestions from those of you who may have had similar symptoms?
