I can be standing punching holes in papaer at work or walking on the treadmill and I will start coughing . I'll cough to the point where I can not catch my breath if I do not get something to drink. I have no health problems. I have had a thyroidectomy. It has happened twice in the last week. It is very frightening, especially since I don't know what causes it. Anyone else have this happen?

My coughing spasm stops only when I drink water or spit a sticky, gluelike saliva. I went to my doctor, did chest Xray, checked for pertussis and all and everything seems ok. My doctor suggested to completely stop smoking and if am still having problems will refer me to a pulmonary dr. The other thing that I forgot is that I have this cough for almost three months, on and off.

  • I have been coughing for months. All started when I was exposed to airborn Cryptococcus I feel like I'm dying sometimes I can't even get a breath of air. I ignored it when it started, bad move. They say maybe athsma and/or broncitus, no allergies, clear chest exray. Nontheless if I was older and/or smoked cigaretes I'd be dead aready.Trying to see a pumonologist but my health insurance company says it's not medically nessasary.
