have the same coughing and symptoms described in the 12-08-2010 thread. does anyone know what is the cause, and what to do? the cough is always lingering in my throat. Most of the time is feels like a Deep Cough, and when breathing out, it seems very bronchial. wheezing. clear, stringy phlegm comes up. Sometimes a metallic taste. The chest xray is clear. Have been on antibiotics, and nothing has cleared the cough. It is driving me crazy with worry and coughing, coughing, and coughing in spurts! Use an inhaler when needed to relax the airways from all the coughing. drinking lots of water does not seem to help. nothing seems to be curing the cough. it began in july, went away. got it again in october. have had it again since the third week of december, a month now!!! thank you if anyone has found out what this is all about.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been coughing/wheezing for about 8 months, started with a bad bout of bronchitis. Since then it has been on and off. When I cough I sometimes cough up a totally clear or very light yellow, stringy phlegm. The cough and phlegm both have a metallic taste. None of the doctors I've seen can explain the metallic taste, has anyone else experienced this? My chest x-ray was clear, from now I guess I'll have an allergy test done and I'll suggest a sputum culture. The only time I feel well is when I'm on prednisone, once the steroids wear off the cough is back. I just want to feel well again

  • I have had the same symptoms for over 3 months! I have been to a doctor and he said I had asthma. I told him that's impossible, bc I have no family history of asthma and I have never had respiratory problems. After an x-ray, he said my lungs were clear and healthy, so he ruled out asthma and chalked it up to allergies (which I also have never had a history of.) He sent me on my way with a prescription for Claritin, Prednisone and an Albuterol inhaler. He said it should be cleared up in about 10 says with the Claritin and to only use the inhaler when I needed it. Well, that was three months ago and after the Prednisone was gone, my symptoms resumed. Thank goodness for that $55 inhaler, bc I swear sometimes I feel like I'm about to die just going up the stairs or in the middle of the night after a cough attack. I've also been losing quite a lot of weight, bc I'm afraid to eat anything (the coughing and throwing up that ensues after I'm done eating is very weakening.) I don't have insurance, so the only place I can get medical attention is the county clinic where there are nothing but hack doctors like "Dr. Claritin." Please, if anyone can lead me in the right direction as to how I can treat this I would GREATLY appreciate it.have the same coughing and symptoms described in the 12-08-2010 thread. does anyone know what is the cause, and what to do? the cough is always lingering in my throat. I find the coughing starts after drinking alcohol. Quitting that now with carbonated drinks and hoping for the best.
