For the past two weeks, our 5 Year old daughter constantly put her hands to her mouth to breath out onto them, making that breathy sound. She now does it about every 20 seconds or so.

Initially, she said it was to keep the bugs out. She recently said it feels better. She now just avoids the topic. She does not do it while sleeping.

The spark, excitement, fun loving of life she had seems to have diminished over the past two weeks.

Why does our 5 Year old daughter habbit of breathing into her hands?

  • I hope she's okay now. Seeing she said it is to keep bugs out and is doing it so often.. it sounds as if she may have a phobia... or developing something like obsessive compulsive disorder. (or it could just be a temporary strange thing young children sometimes do). Sounds like a mental health or behavioural issue rather then a breathing/lung issue. So mental health forum would be a better place for this post. consider taking her to a child psychologist if she isnt over this.
