Does any one know how this happens. I know that it is a chromosonal syndrome. Is a parent a carrier? How exactly is a child born with this?

  • well from what i have researched trisomy 18 also known as Edward's Syndrome is not a sex-linked gentic disease but an autosomal trisomy disease meaning that has to do with any chromosones except sex chromosomes...the 18th chromosome is accidentally added making three copies of the the 18th chromosome making edwards syndrome and make other physical deformities and such...yeah!=)

  • well what the man is saying is right, but the disease is extremely rare and usually affects girls 8/10s of the time. with this disease few infants survive their 1st month, and about 5% make it to 1yr. Its wrse than down syndrome (trisomy 21), and does affect all organ systems in the body. Either way if u had it, most likely ud have been miscarried, or wouldnt be alive today to tell the story......even if u did manage to survive the odds and live, infants with edwards syndrome are 100% likely to me mentally retarded((im being literal no joke)) so yup
