I am hoping someone can help me..My son Jayson age 14 was diagnosed 6 months ago with CMT(a form of MD) He is also severly autistic. Everything that I have read says that kids are able to walk most of their lives. But Jayson can no longer walk or stand. Could he have been misdiagnosed? What else could it be?

  • There are several forms of CMT. It depends on which form of CMT he was diagnosed with. My mother and younger sister (age 16) has CMT 1A and that type they usually never end up in a wheelchair and if they do its way later in life. I am unfamiliar with the other types but know they are several others. If I were you I would call the doctor back or at the next visit find out what specific type he has and research it from there.
